After a somewhat good nights sleep last night I wasn’t feeling too bad this afternoon so when I got a call from a friend asking if I felt like hitting the cinema, I agreed (on the condition it was an early evening showing so I was home early enough). Neither of us were really pushed about what to go and see and the timeings were pretty ackward so we went to see “Training Day“. I did quite enjoy the movie, it’s nothing spectacular and about the only word I can think of to describe it is gritty. It’s very well acted with both Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke up for Oscars and several other major awards for their performances. All in all a solid movie, but not something I would be in any rush to see again.

“’cause goodness knows that you’re an opinionated person”
hmmmmm
I got fed up of sitting around the house, after all it has been a few days so I hit Borders in town. Direct bus there and back so it wasn’t too bad at all. Some new reading material. I’ve heard a lot about “Barry Ween” recently so I picked that up to give it a try, also the first “Crow” graphic novel, loved the movie so I’m looking forward to reading this and “Hellboy: Wake the Devil”. I have not read any of Hellboy before and I did want to start at the start but I was recommended otherwise. So I was looking at what they had and well Alan Moore did the intro for this collection and that pretty much sold me on the spot. I will let you know how it all goes.
On an update note, I finished “Starman: Sins of the Father” earlier today and I have to admit to not really being excited by it. I don’t think I will be getting more in this series.
Ya know what irritates the fuck out of me? Someone sends you an im and is: a) pissed when you don’t answer immediatly, b) pissed cause your doing other things, c) pissed cause you don’t always reply to a statement im with some sort of conversation, or d) a combination of the above.
Anytime I am online it’s pretty damn rare that I’m only doing one thing. It’s called multitasking. I I am usually surfing in some way and using im. If I’m really in the midst of something I’ll turn off im or set and away message. It’s not anyone’s right to have a conversation with me just because I’m online. If you send an im and someone does not reply live with it, they are doing something else or you know it’s even possible they don’t want to talk to you!
fuck it
On a whole other note I may have to rethink the soundtrack idea. I can now see why it could not make sense to anyone.
One of my closer friends has just set up her own blog in order to prove to me that some people can have boring lives and therefore boring uninteresting blogs. So far, 3 posts in, she is not doing a very good job. 😉
I look forward to more updates
G.W. strikes again, a quote from a speech given in Japan.
“It begins here because for a century and a half now,America and Japan have formed one of the great and enduring alliances of modern times”
Yah why let a little thing like WW2 get in the way. (via Meta Filter)
I think Wil’s “WTF?” nicely covers this strange picture. to my shame I only ever got around to buying one Metallica album, but it was the excellent “S&M”, which I have unfortunatly left in work so I can’t put it on now 🙁
Following up on yesterdays excellent “State of the Union” interview with Bill Jemas and Joe Quesada from Marvel, today its Paul Levitz ““Looking at DC”.
The Pirates of Prime Time
*sigh*, I don’t appear to be able to log into my hosting control centre thingy at the moment, it’s giving me 404s 🙁
The Stephen King post I promised from a while ago, not really much to it, but…
One of Meg’s recent posts reminded me of a post about Stephen King I had been planning to make for a while now. In many of his books, he writes an introduction or an afterwards (or both) and he will use the phrase “constant reader” or sometimes a variation. Unlike many others who try and use that or a similar phrase, it does not sound in any way contrived or patronising It always seems to work in his books. I don’t get why, but when I read one of his books, I expect to see that phrase before I actually get into the first chapter. Don’t ask me how but it often feels like a personal connection to the books. The simple phrase helps to kick start my reading and my involvement in the story. Anyway it’s a prime example of good writing.
Iain has been quite sad and added The AlphBlogabet Test to 8 Letters. It’s strange how something can be so sad and yet also quite cool at the same time. Must have been a quiet (and blogger free) evening 😉
