Motherfuckers. Would it have been so hard to show a two hour special and include the second part????
Month: March 2002
Ad break. I offer this link without comment.
Ad break. Television programs don’t get any better than this. It really is as simple as that.
New West Wing is starting now. It’s been too long. First DVD is out next week 🙂 🙂
Right I bought some singles today for the first time in ages. The Pet Shop Boys “Home And Dry” as I really like it, and “Tainted Love” by Marilyn Manson as it rocks…yes you read that right.
Got some cool stuff in HMV’s sale, 6 albums of various stuff, Air, PJ Harvey, Ash, Wyclef Jean (which I have meant to get for a while) and Ash’s latest. Also a couple of cool Transformers t-shirts. I am really looking forward to the comic.
Couple of new comics (shocked eh?) “Peter Parker A Day in the Life” which is very continuity based but a really good read so far. Also “Arkham Asylum“, a Batman tale from Grant Morrison that I have heard alot of good things about.
If you’ve been reading over the past couple of months you will know that I recently started reading alot of stuff by Judd Winick. Well today I read the first volume of his collected strip “Frumpy the Clown” and spent a very plesant hour on the bus into town reading it. It rocks. Winick is one the funniest writers I’ve read and I am really looking forward to the second volume, and I will have to pick up his Green Lantern stuff aswell.
I feel like I’ve done a huge amount today, but I actually haven’t I spent most of the afternoon just wandering around town, not really doing all that much. I did check out Hamleys (which I hadn’t actually done yet) for the biggest toy shop in the country (if not Europe) I was really disapointed. There was a terrible selection, there seemed to be a little of everything but nothing major and it was too professional and no damn fun!
24. Now that would have worked so much better with two deaths at the end. Interesting to note who is using Mac’s these days. damn you Salon!!
In the twilight of the Cold War, the United States spent millions of dollars to supply Afghan schoolchildren with textbooks filled with violent images and militant Islamic teachings, part of covert attempts to spur resistance to the Soviet occupation.
The primers, which were filled with talk of jihad and featured drawings of guns, bullets, soldiers and mines, have served since then as the Afghan school system’s core curriculum. Even the Taliban used the American-produced books, though the radical movement scratched out human faces in keeping with its strict fundamentalist code.

The word oops springs to mind, alongside the word fuck…
Way too many comics today.
Come in Alone | Channel Zero | Frumpy the Clown | Maus II | Flash: Blood will Run | Invisibles: Apocalipstick | Strangehaven: Arcadia | Starman: Night and Day | Swamp Thing: Earth to Earth | Essential Wolverine I (signed by Claremont but more on that in mo)
Two hardbacks aswell because I basically decided fuck it I can afford them and they are nice, in fact one of them is really nice. Over the coming months I believe I will look into some stuff in hardback. I’m thinking the entire run of Sandman in hardback would be really really really nice. Todays was Kevin Smiths Green Arrow: Quiver and the oversized Ultimate Spiderman. Yes I have the Spidey stuff in TPB already but this is really sweet and a really nice price.
The WEF is having a noticeable impact on my reading and I will discuss this more in the days and weeks to come.
So this afternoon I headed out to the Chris Claremont signing. If you don’t recognise that name, well shame on you. Chris is one of the legandary writers, known mainly for his work on X-Men in the past few decades. Anyway it was good, fucked up and didn’t bring what I wanted signed and the selection there was shite so…..
I’ve been to alot of cons, I’ve seen a hell of alot of autograph sessions over the past few years and I really don’t get the comic ones. About 5 years ago I was at a comic con in Dublin and Garth Ennis was there (I do kick myself now that I know who he is…) and there were people coming up with litteraly 60 comics and putting them on the table and he was just signing them all. The same again today, one guy had at least 100 old X-Men comics and he just placed them on the table and started chatting while they were all being signed.
2 Things
1) what is the fucking point? Oh well yes I have 192 Chris Claremont autographs…I’m sorry that’s very sad.
2) how fucking rude is that? Here sign these 100 comics for me please. I mean for fuck sake?
Yes I think it’s a really nice thing to have and yes it took me about a 2 1/2 hour round trip to get to the signing. I’ve read alot of Chris’s work and it’s easily the best X-Men stuff ever and I am looking forward to his re-launching of Gen 13 and yes I wanted to get something signed. A whole one item. The same with the Warren Ellis talk on Thursday night, he was signing briefly after the talk so I brought Planetary book one along for that reason. That I get, it’s a nice thing to have but 100 fucking comics?
Anyways…hardback stuff. The plan is to get Sandman (as mentiond already) some Alan Moore stuff, Top Ten for sure, I have the Absolute Authority on order and will more than likely get Ellis’ OGN (original graphic novel) stuff in hardback. Maybe go back and get some Rising Stars and Astro City and Planetary for sure.
It is Friday. The weather is nice(ish). It’s not warm, but it’s more importantly not cold outside. Spring has sprung (sic). This means one and only one thing.
The Queens Head beer garden.
Sweeeeeet 🙂 or otherwise spelt as Schweet
Plans for the weekend? Well, tomorrow is the Claremont signing. Other than that I have no plans but to chill. Some new comics I want to check out, so maybe some legwork around all the shops to see what new and strange stuff I can pick up.
Monday is pay-day including 2 pay rises and some bonus stuff. Monday night is party night, we are so going drinking after work.
Pretty much everything is now good. A far cry from a couple of weeks ago.
