Akira

I’ve just finished reading book 4 in this series and I am looking forward to reading the concluding two volumes. The special edition DVD arrived in the post for me this morning and I am looking forward to seeing it again maybe sometime over the weekend.

My first introduction to Akira and indeed to Manga was about 6 years ago. I was baby-sitting my sisters while my parents were out at dinner and I was watching tv in the lounge fairly late (well at the time anyway) and I was button bashing. I hit on Channel 4 and there was a “Futuristic sci-fi” movie about to start so it all sounded good. The start blew me away completely. It was absolutely stunning. While the movie was quite complex (and long), I enjoyed it a lot and it stuck with me as a great movie. It turns out it was the start of a Manga season that Channel 4 would run on and off over the years and it was easily the highlight.

Reading the graphic novel series recently its brought back how wonderful a movie this was and the series is more than outstanding in itself. The artwork is stunning and the story is well Akira.
