Every now and again, not all that often I get extreme cramps in my lower legs. It comes on all of a sudden, absolutely no reason that I know of or have ever been able to tell. It’s just extreme pain with no warning and it stays for a couple of minutes. It happened just a second ago and it was worse than it has ever been before. I can take effort not to scream, this was pretty close. It is still tingling a little but it’s such relief when it’s over. No-one I’ve seen has managed to give me any clue about it but tis not nice at all.

Working
I was going to and indeed will still briefly talk about some stuff going on in work. I have a new job title, it’s pretty close to the one I hold until I sign this new contract it just drops a word. I’m not sure how to take it all, it’s certainly wasn’t the bad thing I expected or at least I didn’t think that it was. Some reading today makes me think otherwise. I’m not really going to go into it, I know at least one person who did go into more detail and well rumour has it they got slapped down for it.
So instead in the same trend I’m going to talk about some things that are bothering me a lot lately. Not really going to go into too much detail as it would not be appropriate at all but lets have some analogies.
A manufacturer starts work on an improved model of car. Loads of new improvements and a lot of bodywork and lots of pretty features and that all goes well and you have a nice new chassis for the car. Everyone is happy with this and it goes ahead. However the inside of the car, the dashboard, the seats, etc., etc. is looked after by a whole other department and for various reasons it’s been over 2 years since they did any work for this model of car. So you have this wonderful new 2002 body and this shitty 2000 inside. That’s a pretty damn poor thing to have right? I certainly think it is and I know I’m not the only person to do so. But the process dictates that the bodywork goes ahead and you get your nice new car and every couple of weeks you can come back into the shop and get a small part of your cars insides done up.
I can’t say more than poor, damn poor and I’m not happy about it and I am not going to go away.
As much as I really want to talk about being “too negative” and warnings on it, I know better for sure. It is however a joke. That is all.
On reflection and pretty much the above I can revise an earlier statement and not be fired by Dave. It was never at you, I wasn’t sure who but it’s the process, the entire fucking process. I hate that word by the way, it’s used as an excuse too much.
*sigh* I know I said briefly so I’m gonna stop now before I get myself in more trouble.
Round and round we go.
When I was younger and first started going out with my friends my parents would always warn me not to get involved with rounds. They always thought it was a bad idea. I’m not sure in practice how they ever dealt with it. Rounds are pretty standard when I go out with the guys, you get everyone and drink and you get a drink when anyone goes to the bar. It’s not a rule by any means and if you don’t want to do it that’s so not a problem, every now and again people will claim brokeness and skip out on getting rounds, they either just get themselves a drink or take a raincheck on the next time. I’ve never felt hard done by it, sure I’ll sometimes get a number of drinks and there will not be as many in return but over the next few times in the pub it will even out.
Akira
I’ve just finished reading book 4 in this series and I am looking forward to reading the concluding two volumes. The special edition DVD arrived in the post for me this morning and I am looking forward to seeing it again maybe sometime over the weekend.
My first introduction to Akira and indeed to Manga was about 6 years ago. I was baby-sitting my sisters while my parents were out at dinner and I was watching tv in the lounge fairly late (well at the time anyway) and I was button bashing. I hit on Channel 4 and there was a “Futuristic sci-fi” movie about to start so it all sounded good. The start blew me away completely. It was absolutely stunning. While the movie was quite complex (and long), I enjoyed it a lot and it stuck with me as a great movie. It turns out it was the start of a Manga season that Channel 4 would run on and off over the years and it was easily the highlight.
Reading the graphic novel series recently its brought back how wonderful a movie this was and the series is more than outstanding in itself. The artwork is stunning and the story is well Akira.
Police called to Star Wars screening after film reel blunder.
Class, It would have been so much better had it just skipped on 🙂
Awe
Ya know you might think this sad, but it still surprises me sometimes to think that I have a desk. It doesn’t happen all that often but last week I was talking with a couple of the guys in the pub and I realised I had lost something and I said “I must have left it on” small pause “my desk”. I doubt they noticed but I suddenly realised what I was saying and for a second it even felt silly to say it. When I first moved over to London and started in the office, I was in for my first day and I was brought to what would be my desk and I had the same feeling when I got a phone and an extension number. It was just a case of why would I get a phone and a phone number, what possible reason would you have for giving that to me.
See it’s kinda sad and pretty silly, but until I moved over here I had never worked anywhere that I had a desk of my own and a phone. Bear in mind I had just come from a call centre so while I had a desk, I shared it with people and I couldn’t always have it. It was quite nice to have this desk which was mine and on this desk I had my phone and my computer and they weren’t for anyone else to use. They are mine. It was a strange feeling which I thought I had grown out of but I guess there is still a little bit of that in me.
Actually there is a couple of things I guess these days that give me the same feeling but it’s not all that sad (well it is) but it’s kinda cool at the same too. Access rights, it’s always good to get as much as possible, you never know when you need it. I’ve seen that more and more recently, the same goes for tools. I horde them and I backup my hordes. In my opinion it is a damn good habit and one I plan on sticking with for a long time.
Don’t mess with the muppet.
Salon’s review of AOTC. Ouch pretty much sums it up, however a quote stolen Metafilter from also does so: Then Yoda rocked the house and we all went apeshit.
