Conversations with colleagues.

I just had this one; kicked off by someone else.
“XYZ is broken”
“I know, we work with fuckwits”
“Whats wrong with it? It was working this morning”
“I know, they are working on it”
“But it was fine, now it’s unavailable”
“I know *pause*, we work with fuckwits.”
“Ah…well ok bye”

I hate this, I mean I know I started in this company actively dealing with members and their issues but doesn’t anyone actually give a fuck what we show our members? That if the first thing they see when they connect is broken and generating an error message that is a very bad thing? Does no-one other than me see that?

One from earlier; kicked off by me

“Hi, you know that XYZ your working on?”
“Hi, yes, still working on it”
“Just wanted to check that it is set up so that members are not seeing it?, I’m seeing error messages this morning”
“I have a test template on it”
“members can’t access that right?”
“err well it was live briefly, I’ll change it now”
“great thanks, don’t forget we have members on this and need to bear that in mind while testing”
“ok point taken”.

Point taken??? FOR FUCK SAKE. Point taken? Had this been for something that wasn’t a fourth class citizen people would have been majorly chewed out over something like that, I mean if a fucking typo gets a written warning what would this do?

The theme is PAY ATTENTION, your not stupid I really really do believe that I just wish you would prove it every once in awhile.

From the weekend

Bristol.
Saturday 07:45

So I’m not feeling as bad as I thought I might which is good. Made it on time and I am sitting on
the coach waiting to go. I don’t have fond memories of traveling to Bristol and of course the damn con would have to be there.

More later

And it’s later. 18:45 to be precise. I’m having a good time so far, it is certainly not what I expected and the venue is madly hot and somewhat badly organised but going ok. I’m just waiting on a group of WFUKers and then we are off to dinner.

Ran into my now ex. Which was not entirely unexpected but still kinda very strange.

Dinner with the WEFUK and guests was a lot of fun and quite good food. The whole desert thing was quite bad but it was all ok in the end. It was really good to meet so many people and the added bonus on Jamie Rich from Oni and the WEF, and Greg Rucka (Detective / Whiteout / Elektra) joining us. Both really nice guys doing really good things.

Sunday 18:20.
All in all a good day, some good panels and good fun. All the Rage live was quite entertaining and worth going too. I spent very little over the weekend, 2 issues of the excellent Strangehaven and that is it. Very restrained indeed.

Heading home now an hour early, which is good. A shower will be very welcome it is too damn hot and has been all weekend. Then Internet and sleep.

Only a couple more things to mention and both in the same trend. I may just have been very wrong in general but I was not expecting the number of women at the con. There were a lot and damn a lot of them were cute. The same could be said about Bristol. I had never noticed how many gorgeous women there were wandering around and boy did the sunshine make that better.

Vision

So my eyes are fine, there has been no noticeable change to them over the past 18 months. The reason they are so is either as expected too much time in front of computers or in a new info kinda thing, hayfever. They have been pretty bad over the psat 4 – 6 weeks which apperntly matches a number of other complaints and could be as a result of a higher pollen count.

92′: Long ball forward from Finann …. headed on by Quinn … Robbie Keane is in … he rockets it off the post and in …. GOOOOOOOOOOAALLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!

If ever there was a single reason to go and be at a football match it would be this:

12:17: The teams aren’t on the pitch yet, but the Irish fans are certainly making their presence felt … “The Fields of Athenry” is blasting out all around, drowning out the feeble voices of the Germans. Surely a tremendous omen? Tremendous craic at any rate!

Ireland v. Germany

The joke is on me

A few weeks ago I posted this: Fuck you world
Well today it turns out that was all a waste of my time and effort. The joke is on me, no-one gives a fuck, they just don’t care. “Bad Member Experience”, so what, they are use to it and expect it. The word beta is used to cover anything that is in any way fucked up and no-one is prepared to fix it. The fact that it has taken extra effort to fuck it up to this point is just fucking stupid.

I was quite proud of the work I had done on this over the past few weeks, but now I’m just left wondering why I bother. Why should we even bother, lets just get the first thing that comes along, release it out and hey if anyone complains about it, we still won’t do anything. What is the point of any of this? Hang on, we still have something working, lets go break it just because. What, you mean you went to special effort to get this fixed for us, well that is nice now fuck off and fix this now.

Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck.

They have now nicely sent me an email with the details I need to fix it.

Bastards.

Nuclear War

Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf has refused to renounce the first use of nuclear weapons, as efforts to bring him together with his Indian counterpart appeared to fail.

Asked to state Pakistan’s nuclear policy and explain why it will not renounce first use of nuclear weapons as India has, Musharraf said, “The possession of nuclear weapons by any state obviously implies they will be used under some circumstances.”
Ananova

One has to wonder what the fallout (sorry) from this would be.

DS9 on DVD

There is a thread going on at the moment on the WEF about Best TV Moments ever and DS9 is starting to pop up a lot. It’s gotten me thinking how much I miss that show. It had so many single wonderful moments and they were all character moments. I want this show on DVD. I want to be able to sit here and watch it as and when I wish. Borrowed from Dan in the thread, this is possibly one of the best descriptions of what made DS9:

“The Die is Cast”- after all that’s happened in the episode, with Garak’s shop destroyed, the Obsidian order wrecked by the Dominion, and his father Enebran Tain dead (Paul Dooley playing WAY against type), Garak returns to the wreckage of his life. Odo, who’s been stuck with Garak for the whole bloody ordeal and was even tortured by Garak at one point under the orders of Tain, enters the shop and invites him to breakfast.

“But you don’t eat breakfast, constable.”

“I know.”

Robinson’s reaction to this small gesture of friendship is silent and beautifully understated.

Just think of DVD box sets, man I so want them.

Oh and I suspect that a “friend” has made sure that any and everyone now knows the news.
