Shiny Unhappy People

Note to Dave, I know this came from on high and this is not directed at you. Besides you already know I am less than impressed with the entire thing. So today it was finally confirmed what has been common knowledge for the past month or so which is that for our team day out we are all off to Disneyland Paris. And you know by any means that’s a pretty damn cool team day out. But of course the entire team can’t go on the same day we have to split into groups because the entire of technology cannot simply disappear. The way in which they have gone about this is pretty damn shit. I’m on a team that does not need to be there day in and day out, we don’t have anything to do with operations so you would think this wouldn’t be a problem for us but anyway here is the deal.

The three of us figured we would go on the same day, made more sense so we had the choice of days a Monday or a Friday. We picked the Friday. All was well and good we were to go on the Friday.

But no, not even an hour later, we have to go on the Monday because the other half of our team is going on the Friday but it’s fine if we can arrange to swop with someone on the Friday.

Two problems with this:
1) It’s yet more of the “We listened to what you had to say and then we completely ignored it. Thank you for your input, we are continually striving to improve communication and feedback within the organisation.

2) We can’t go on the Friday because we have to “cover” for the other half of the team BUT if somehow all three of us manage to get someone to swop days that is all fine and we can go on Friday. If there is any logic there, I’m just not seeing it

Yet again it is so nice to be cared about, appreciated and listened to. Way to go management, the PLANNING for the team building day has pissed off your staff, damn fine start. At least it can only go uphill right?

Well, I don’t know. There are a number of unhappy people, and even more so seen as its going to involve quite a bit of our time aswell, there hasn’t been any consultation about this and we get treated like above.

And people wonder why I am so cynical about the whole place.

ISLE OF PALMS, S.C. — Officials in a South Carolina beach town said that they are puzzled by a giant silver orb that washed up on shore this week.
The smooth, metallic ball is about 3 feet in diameter and weighed several hundred pounds.
There are numbers on the surface, but no other clues.

Not all right, but the gist of the rumour was right. Story here.

Hey Kids!

There is a rumour going around this morning that Stuart Moore has resigned from Marvel and that the Max and Marvel Knights lines will be canned. Some of the titles may be moved back into the “Marvel Universe” but they may not have the same creative teams.
This is not good, not good at all. It certainly would appear that there is some truth to this, Newsrama are preparing a story on it and many sites are running with the news. This is not a good thing for Marvel at all. Max and MK are its best work and Stuart Moore has always come across (via Bristol and the WEF) as a top bloke and doing a damn good job.

In other news there is now a fucking He-Man revival going on aswell. Story here.

Stating the Obvious

Sometimes it is just too much. I’ve just had two conversations and in both of them people seemed to go out of their way to state the obvious and to really state the obvious. For the entire process to work there was a simple prerequisite. I knew it and everyone involved in the conversation knew it, it was obvious. There was just no damn need for it to be stated and repeated and repeated. We know it has to be there, but it is completely redundant unless the original thought is actually possible which funnily enough was what the conversation was about. *sigh*. It bugs the hell out of me when people do that.

It works exactly the same fucking way we have been talking about. Fucking hell pay attention.

A few bits and pieces

It seemed kinda silly to say it but its working for someone else even if its a *tad* depressing. I miss my friend, I wish he had still been around to join us at the weekend, he would have had a blast.

Every time I go out drinking with the guys from work I promise myself it will be the last time, its just not working out. Don’t get me wrong its great company…mainly. Personality clashes are not getting better in fact they are getting worse and I really need to do something about that. Its usually a lot more fun at the start of the night and as people leave it gets less fun. The “hardcore” drinkers left at the end gets kinda unfun. And by kinda unfun I mean nasty. Must do something about it.

I’m reading another Dennis Lehane at the moment and I’m really enjoying it. His writing is some of the easiest to read I have ever come across and it works really well. I started this book a couple of nights ago just as I was going to bed, I thought I would read the first chapter and then get some sleep and I got through 75 pages in less than 10 min. I mean I read fast but that’s not bad going at all. His humour also appeals to me a lot, its sarcastic, sometimes very simple sarcasm but it works a lot.

Ole Ole Ole

SAVE TARGET AS. Memorable at the very least for Enya singing “Ole Ole Ole” as it starts off. Wow does this bring back memories. What a fantastic tune. If we can do better this time it would rock so much. I remember watching the news when the team came home and the entire of Dublin was just a sea of people in the colours. The bus barely able to move through all the crowds and the team being treated as such heroes. Man those images are gonna stay with me for a long long time. And that was when we lost in the quarter finals. Just think what would happen if we get further. I got some money set aside for a flight home, there is no way I’m gonna be out of the old country if that happens.

End of the Century

I’ve just used the phrase “at the end of the last century” to describe the latter few years of the ninties. Felt weird but kinda right. It was a whole other time allright. 😉
