and yes my fucking neighbours decided it was fine to use an electric drill at 8:55 AM on a Sunday morning. I was less than impressed to be woken up by this.
Month: September 2002
Friday Five…on Sunday again.
1. Would you say that you’re good at keeping in touch with people?
No, I’m pretty bad at it. It is something I really need to work on,
2. Which communication method do you usually prefer/use: e-mail, telephone, snail mail, blog comments, or meeting in person? Why?
Othe: IM or in person. It’s just very easy to talk to someone over IM.
3. Do you have an instant messenger program? How many? Why/why not? How often do you use it?
Yes, ICQ, Y!, MSN and AIM all through Trillian. I’m online with something around 10 hours a day usually.
4. Do most of your close friends live nearby or far away?
Far far away
5. Are you an “out of sight, out of mind” person, or do you believe that “distance makes the heart grow fonder”?
Hmm, I don’t know.
Good Will Hunting
Good Will Hunting I don’t know quite why I hadn’t seen this movie before. Well I do I guess, I don’t like Matt Damon or Ben Affleck as actors. I’ve never really enjoyed their performances in any movies. The same goes for Minnie Driver but she got major bonus points for the excellent Grosse Point Blank and indeed for Good Will Hunting. I borrowed it from Iain during the week, having always intended to see it at some stage it was looking at me from the shelf in Blockbuster last week and I remembered I could borrow it. So I watched it late last night and I really enjoyed it. A pretty damn good movie with Robin Williams in another standout role. I’ll be picking this up on dvd at some stage. A special editon would be nice!

I’ve been trying to install Moveable Type for the past couple of days with the plan to move over to that. I have however run into a small problem which I can’t figure out nor is there any details about to cover in the help and despite all of Iain’s help, its just not working. I’m going to run the server error logs past some people in work on Monday and see if they can make any suggestions (hi Dave) otherwise it will be Blogger all the way. If it does work, there will be a new template up here soonish so I can move everything over and publish with MT. Otherwise it is just going to have to wait till I’m bothered.
Oh and another couple of things about last night. As it was coming to the end of the night, I was informed that there was of course the obligatory few minutes required on the dance floor. Luckily enough (sic) I had drunk enough to agree to this and we moved from the bar. Literally as we stepped onto the dance floor they kicked off Rythem is a Dancer so that was good and this was followed by Bille Jean so we are still on the all good. Then it got better…for a few seconds. One of my favourite songs of all time and in my opinions Queen’s best song Under Pressure kicked off. It has a very distinctive intro and I was quite happy with this. However the look of happiness from my face changed to shock then to confusion and then to disgust. They were playing Ice Ice, Baby by Vanilla fucking Ice. Of course he not only sampled but according to internet rumour stole; Under Pressure for this early ninties hit.
Birds of Prey
I’ve just watched the original unaired pilot for Birds of Prey and I wasn’t all that impressed. I know a fair bit of it has been reshot but it wasn’t great. A cute cast in leather is a plus but I really don’t like the amount of changes they made with continuity. Helena is not Batman and Catwoman’s daughter, that’s just bad. Also there is no way Oracle would be telling anyone Batman’s identity as Bruce Wayne for any reason. I’m gonna check out the new version of the pilot and the first few episodes but I suspect it will rank the same as Smallville. I’ll watch it if it is on and I’m not doing anything else. Other than that not really pushed.
Captain Marvel.
A while ago I blogged a bit about some stuff going on around Peter David’s Captain Marvel. Well theatrics came and went, but today I picked up the relaunched issue 1. Aside from a lovely cover by the one and only Alex Ross, it has Chris Cross at his best and a pretty damn good story from Peter. I’m definatly going to be picking up this series.
Also it is worth noting that the oversized hardcover The Absolute Authority is stunningly pretty.
Hungover…again
So last night was beers and more beers and then some vodka and then some whiskey and then some more vodka. *sigh* A quiet couple of drinks after work turned into a long night out ending up in Po Na Na’s and not getting home till sometime after four a little the worse for wear.
Very pissed off that after we paid in to the nightclub we found it was a night in aid of Fox-Hunting and the door money was going to support the Country Side Alliance. Not impressed with that at all. Had I known before I would not have gone in there.
Talent however was stunning. Music was shit interspersed with moment of genius. Quite a bit of Michael Jackson classics which was good, some Guns N’ Roses which was good, Snap’s Rhythm is a Dancer which was perfect but lots of “urban garbage” mixed in around it.
Spent most of the night just drinking chatting and of course enjoying the views on the dancefloor. All in all a good night but I don’t think I’m gonna have breakfast anytime soon.
I have just found out that the Scooter song I quite liked The Logical Song is actually a remix of an old Supertramp song.
Hungover.
So last night was beers and more beers and then some vodka. Fortunatly this was all with good company and a good night was had. For various reasons, but mainly due to people dropping out like flies there was only a few of us left going out. So we stayed local. After about an hour I realised I had left something on my desk and headed back to the office to pick up my PDA. Came back to the pub with some of the late working stragglers and we had a good night.
Mozilla.
Right I figured it was high time I played with Mozilla for a while. So I’m using it now (and boy blogger really does not like it) and I’m gonna put it on cd and bring it home and give it a try for a while. Using the latest beta 1.2a and I will let you know how it goes.
I just pressed the wrong buttons on the vending machine. I have a can of Tango Orange instead of Orange Juice. I am not impressed. This does not bode well for the rest of my day.
