– In some pieces of music, there is a certain point where they reach perfection. There is a build-up, sometimes quite a long build-up and then there is the sudden pay out. Everything to that point resolves itself in a second of perfection and it makes the song. I suspect there is a name for such moments used by music people and people better learned than I am. I used the phrase nirvana to describe it a while ago, and it works for me. I don’t think I can give you any examples, it is always going to be a personal choice. Listen for it.
– Warren Ellis has claimed many a time over at the no defunct WEF that an author does not owe their fans anything. I disagree. At the very least they owe their paying audience the best they can do. I wonder how the thought can work with blogs. Do you owe your readers anything? I don’t know. I read a few blogs these days, maybe someday I will list them all.
– I was very happy this afternoon to discover whilst browsing through Previews that Garth Ennis is returning with another War Story series in December. His 4 issue series last year was possibly his best work and certainly ranked amongst the best comics of the year. The other excitement looking through Previews was some reprints of old Bendis material I don’t have.
– I am enjoying The Shield a lot. Like The Sorpranos it is a good example of a show proving that the characters don’t have to be the good guys for the show to work.
– I somehow ended up watching 4 episodes of CSI today. All good, but it really stuck me how forumulaic the show actually is. While it is smart and well written, most of the time its exactly the same week in and week out.
