So I’ve been a little wrapped up in myself lately and I’ve not talked all that much about stuff going on around the world so catch up time.
Russia: Chechen Hostage situation.
Ok never let it be said I don’t have interesting views. A lot of respect is due to the ‘terrorists’, I would like to note the words ‘freedom fighters’ could also be used here AND I would like to note that they identified themselves as part of the Chechen Army. Anyway they took over 700 people hostage in a theatre in Moscow. It took around 50 people all armed and carrying explosives.
I have to respect people like that, and yes that includes some very unpopular people in the world these days. They are fighting for a cause against an army they just cannot beat. They have to do something different. I admire people who are dedicated to a cause, you have to give them that much.
However I also have to admire the Russian’s final reply. It seems to have been the only thing they could have done. They sent in the troops. Using gas to knock everyone out in the theatre seems to have been a master stroke. Using poisonous gas which they knew would kill some of the hostages too took guts. Ordering the troops to kill every hostage taker including the ones unconscious was a decision to be respected. I balked at the thought for a moment even more so when I saw pictures of the female hostage takers who had been executed while obviously unconscious. However when the picture fully loaded and you could see explosives strapped around their waists, well that changes things.
“We could not save everyone. Please forgive us.”

USA: Sniper
Well I don’t know what to say. I really don’t know what to say. It was kinda like a comic plot. I don’t really have to respect anyone who decides to go and out kill like that for no reason. I can say and I know this is going to sound quite bad, but I imagine it was quite a kick. Taunting the police and giving them information was kinda stupid. Given that they did not appear to have any information and seemed unable to do anything to prevent more killings….
Anyway I am glad it is over. I have a lot of friends in that area and I know at least one person who this affected on a more personal level so it is good that it is over. I do have to wonder how long till a copycat appears.
UK: Firefighters strike
I am fully in support of this. I don’t care that they want a 40% pay increase. The government pay fire-fighters around £21,000 pounds per year. That is a complete disgrace. They strike and they have my support. They deserve the money and then some.
and finally
on a much more lighter note; dog shoots man.
