Annoyed

Last week when I was browsing for concert tickets, I noticed Doves were playing tonight. I knew who they were and I knew there was a good buzz about them. I didn’t get a ticket because I didn’t think I knew their material. On Sunday night I found their album in my collection and of course remembered who they were and that of the 12 tracks I really liked 4 and thought the rest were all not bad.

I am annoyed. They sound like a band who would come into their own live.

Flash is hurting my head. It makes no sense.

The call I am on is hurting my head. It makes no sense.

Working with Flash while I’m on the call is killing me.

And sweet fuck Alfred Bester wrote, Superman, Batman and Green Lantern amongst others.

I find it kinda funny, I find it kinda sad.

Mad World is haunting me. I must have listened to it 15 times already today and its still haunting me.

Last night was allright, hit the local as it was one of the girls birthdays. Hadn’t planned on going out, but had to show up for a while. Started off well and just drinking coke but that didn’t last long. It was strange to see some of the old bar staff back there after what must be a year and somewhat scary to realise I know like the past 3 years worth of staff there. Got home reasonably early and was in bed just after 12.

Still got three episodes of Buffy to watch, that’s the plan for tonight.

Working in Flash at the moment and it is hurting my head. I can’t even figure out how to correctly add a check-box to a page nevermind assign it actions to edit the registry, but I shall slog on.

The domain name servers have been changed, they should go through around midnight tonight and then tomorrow I should be able to set up the new site and upload all my photos. I must try and remember to bring in the last 100 or so to get them into albums then sort and publish them. Oh and burn them to cd.

Had an interesting start to my day today. There is a new rule…well not really a new rule, but an old rule going to be enforced for a while at least of being in the office at 9:30. Well, this morning was not bad, I managed 9:32. I think that was ok. Turned my computer on, signed onto AIM and did a send and receive. Pretty much the standard first thing in the morning things. I wasn’t expecting an email to myself and my sister from my Dad telling us my little sister had just spent the past 36 hours in hospital. Nothing all that serious, a bad case of the flu complicated by an existing medical condition, but serious enough to be taken in and bypassing casualty. Yeah welcome to work Dave. Kinda pissed off that this happened on Sunday night and I only found out by email this morning but I guess we are all use to it at this stage. One quick call later and everything seems to be fine.

I’m working my way through the block of crime novels I had. Just finished Sleepyhead by Mark Billingham. It wasn’t bad, the main character came across as likeable and there wasn’t a bad little idea behind it, but it just fell short a little. I’ll probably pick up the next book by him for the two reasons just mentioned, but I won’t be in any rush. I’m about three quarters of the way through Dead Sleep by Greg Iles, which I must say I am enjoying a lot more. Again quite a nice idea behind it, or at least a new take on an older idea and being developed pretty well. The one thing I have found and I keep doing this everytime I pick the book up to start reading again. I go to the front 100 pages or so. It doesn’t feel like I’ve read 300 pages of it, I’m still waiting for the story to kick off. But that is, in this case, not a complaint. I am enjoying it. So far I have to say for cheap crime novels which I picked up in sales or bogof, I’m not disapointed.

Twenty-eight days… six hours… forty-two minutes… twelve seconds. That… is when the world… will end.

Donnie Darko

Stunning. I had seen it before, I knew what was coming and it still blew me away. I flinched, I more than flinched. I could hear my heart beating.

The cinema was pretty full for a movie which has been out for over a month. Not only that but judging by the conversations at the end of the movie, the majority were like me, repeat viewers. Given that I had only seen it two weeks ago, I was still completely caught up in it. I am very glad I saw it again. Being interrupted several times while watching it on a tiny shit screen on an aeroplane does not do the movie justice.

Amazing cast, Jake Gyllenhaal as Donnie is superb. He carries the movie almost effortlessly. An amazing supporting cast, too many to name them all but top notch performances all round. I don’t know how to describe this movie. I’ve read many reviews and thoughts on it over the past couple of weeks and none seem to agree. It does defy classification. It has a little bit of a lot of genres and they just mesh into one thing: the movie. The only thing I have seen mentioned a couple of times is that it is comparable to Magnolia and Memento. Its kinda like them, but it is also nothing like them. Its mindbending, they all are. But they work, they reach that level where they matter. The movie is important and you actually care about what is going on.

The movie leads you to care about the characters, hell it leads you to care about the movie. When Gary Jule’s cover of Mad World kicks off, it is just such a poignant sequence. Tangent, I am chatting with a friend about the movie at the moment. I was also at keyword: dictionary looking up the correct spelling of the word poignant. Well, describing the exact same scene she just said: “it made it all the more poignant”.

That’s how the movie left me feeling and indeed I still feel: poignant.

World AIDS Day: Link and Think

web space etc.

Hmm, ok the software isn’t bad at all. In less than 20 minutes I have sorted all the photos into galleries of where they were. However there does not seem to be an easy publish option. So I am copying the rest of my photos to the memory card and once I get into work tomorrow I shall transfer them to my Mac with iPhoto and burn the galleries etc to cd. This should allow me to publish them a hell of alot easily.

It also leaves me the 8mb card free to wander around with today. I’m not really in the mood for going out, but I’m even less in the mood for staying in so I think I shall go out and take some photos, grab some food and hit the cinema. For an extra 15 squid a year I can double my available webspace and my bandwidth limits. Bandwidth has never been a problem, I have a 5gb a month limit for what is a text based website so I’ve never even gone near it. Or I might just look elsewhere. Dave has some sort of offer for ready hosting and looking there, I could easily just pay $99 a year for 500mb and all the other stuff and might even be able to install Moveable Type on it. Actually looking at the site now, I shall have a chat with Dave in the morning and if I can transfer my domain across easily enough I shall.

Now I am going to see Donnie Darko again. This small things makes me happy and that ladies and gentlemen is a Good Thing.

So its been a quiet weekend as intended. I didn’t even leave the house yesterday. I watched American Pie and American Pie 2 with the director/cast commentaries on and they killed some time and were quite enjoyable. Both are surprisingly good movies and quite funny in places. Alyson Hannigan is cute as fuck in both movies and Seann William Scott steals every scene he is in.
Not really got much planned for today. I caught the repeat of last weeks The Shield last night and I’m looking forward to tonight’s ep. Thinking about going to see Donnie Darko in the cinema around 6ish. Would be something to do tonight and would give me a chance to take my camera into town and snap some stuff. I really need to get an app for my home computer to let me make galleries easily so I can put some stuff up.

Whoo hoo, scrap that I have one. I’m right now adding all my Tokyo photos to a gallery. That should allow me to sort them fairly quickly, stick them onto a memory stick and upload them all in work tomorrow. Excellent. Perhaps that would be something to do for the afternoon instead of going out, just sort these into where/when/what , etc. Hmm I guess I could spend a couple of hours at that and still make the movies. I certainly prefer iPhoto but this Pixela Image Maker looks like it will do the job. I reckon I can get 10mb (maybe 15) of photos up on davebushe.net and then I shall have to see if I want to get some more webspace or what I want to do with the rest.
