live like the automatic

I’ve been sitting here with the blogger window open for about an hour now. Make that going on two hours. Before I signed off to take a phone call it was open for around an hour aswell.

I opened up but now I’m closed
Today I’m just on answer-phone
Tomorrow’s what I really want to say

My mind is certainly not blank, but nothing is really ordered to even try and put thoughts down on paper. (It’s an expression damn you). Actually I kinda have one thought. One of the most important rules in life is an unwritten rule. It is however a simple rule and you should always follow it.

Your best friends girl is off-limits.

I mean really folks, is that one so hard to understand? It’s a good standard to live by, I think. Not just for your best friend or your friends or work colleagues or whatever, but just in general.

I have tomorrow off work. I have to take 5 days by the end of the month or loose them. So a long weekend this weekend giving me a chance to catch up on some sleep and get a haircut before tomorrow night’s big party. Then next week I head to Dublin on Friday night and I get back to London the following Tuesday. So then I have two more days to take, another couple of long weekends would be great.

I’m downloading Mozilla 1.3b to actually give it a try as my default browser for a while. Pretty much because of this article; Mozilla: Blogging’s Killer App

I’ve been saying something like this for a long time now.

When America “cast off monarchical Britain” in 1776, it involved the help of many religious people who had fled repression in other countries, the 11-term Toledo congressman said. Among the nontraditional American revolutionaries were the Green Mountain Boys, a patriot militia organized in 1770 in Bennington, Vt., to confront British forces, she said.

“One could say that Osama bin Laden and these non-nation-state fighters with religious purpose are very similar to those kind of atypical revolutionaries that helped to cast off the British crown,” Miss Kaptur said.

Her is You

I don’t want to lose her
I don’t want to hurt her
I don’t want to lose her
And her is you

I don’t want to use her
I don’t want to abuse her
I don’t want to miss her
And her is you

I don’t want to hurt her
I don’t want to need her
I don’t want to need her
And her is you

I don’t want to lose her
I don’t want to break her
I want to love her

And her is you
Her is you
Her is you

This is one of my favourite tracks from the album. It really works.

I thought about taking this down last night. I wanted to be able to write and write and write but I knew I was not going to be able to speak well of people I suspect would have been reading. So I was left with not bothering or taking it down. As you can see I left it up and I didn’t post anything else. I shall take things under consideration. I am deeply unhappy and I’m pretty sure this is not the place to express it. Unfortunately I’m not sure where is that place, but…

So anyway last night was pretty bad. I did not sleep well at all. It was close to dawn before I nodded off and of course I was very late for work today. Shit, that was not intended and probably didn’t do me any favours. *sigh*

Um in other news, there isn’t really much so far. Stuff sometime in the future…maybe

everyone you know someday will die

This morning was great. I had my annual review in work and it went really well. I was more than happy with it. We only disagreed on 1 of 20 or so points and you know I can live with that. I was marked up in quite a few areas so ya know I can live with that.

Just before I went into my review I spent a while talking to someone who I have not had a chance to get to talk to in a while and that was good.

A conversation I had around lunchtime went something like this, I don’t even remember who it was but someone sent me an im and asked me how it was going. I replied that it was a really good day.

My, how things change.

By the time I left work and it took effort not to just get up and leave at around 5 o’clock the day and indeed the new few weeks had turned into hell.

I know better than to say anything else right now. I am considering several options. I had seen this one coming quite some time off but I somewhat naively thought it would not come to pass. The next person who tells me I’m too cynical and I should be a little more optimistic can shove it.

Gah, I would like to say that I can’t believe the nerve of some people, but in fact I can. I didn’t see that one coming, but I shall make sure I am not caught out by it again.

I was thinking last night that I would like to actually talk to someone about some work stuff, someone who wouldn’t be coming at things from the same perspective that I do. Obviously I talk to my boss about things like that but more often than not we agree on stuff. One thing that I have thought is that I would like to have the chance to ask some people in senior management how they come to some decisions and things they have to consider. That’s one reason I’ve enjoyed some of the tougher meetings recently. They have been kinda fly on the wall for me. I’m there to cover the technical stuff and debate some merits but decisions are being made alongside that. Struck me that there was a rather simple solution to it. Not something I had given all that much thought to (although we have touched on it before) but my dad is in senior management in his place and has been for quite a while. I’m in Dublin from Friday week and that might be a good chance to talk about some stuff. It’s not like we won’t be down the pub talking anyway. I’m kinda expecting a ‘talking to’ anyway so *shrug*

CSI tonight was excellent. Enjoyed it a lot. They need to do a little more character stories to really take the show to the next level. It has been threatened on and off over the past two years but always seems to fall that little short.

Some comics stuff. I read the second Fables arc last night and it was excellent. Really good stuff especially the last two issues. This alongside Y: The Last Man were Vertigo’s two big success stories last year. Kicking off the latter was doing more for me, but now 6 months into it, I find it to be slipping fast and Fables is just getting better and better. I shall keep up with both but look forward to Fables a lot more. Also read the trade of Steve Niles and Ben Templesmith’s 30 Days of Night which was a good read with some really really really lovely artwork. A tad on the pricey side, £13.50 for a 3ish mini but the script was a nice extra and shipping every issue signed by the creators was a nice touch. Don’t think the sequel will go on the pull list as I know it will hit trades, but that will be one to watch out for.

oh and yes, email was back this morning.

*sigh* my email appears to be fucked. An early night tonight, I think. Gonna sign off, read some comics and then go to bed. I could have a call first thing in the morning so I have to be there on time.

good night all

two quick things

1) I now have the new album Us by the Mull Historical Society

2) I am delighted to report that mini-skirts are back in fashion. You can only begin to guess how happy this makes me 🙂

Ringu.

Met up with Nick last night and we went to see The Ring the US remake of the cult Japanese classic Ringu. For a remake it wasn’t bad at all. It was true enough to the basics of the story and nothing that they changed made a massive difference to the movie. Well, except that the original was far more insidious in the horror and worked much better as a physiological piece. Still it was very enjoyable.

Little bit of a strange night, we met up, picked up some tickets and went for some drinks. Had a couple of hours to kill before the movie and so hence came in the drinks. Well, just lemonade for me, I’m actually going to display some willpower for a while now*. Anyway we get to the cinema about 5 minutes before the movie is due to begin. We walk into the lobby and right then the fire alarm goes off. The cinema is evacuated. After about 20 minutes the all clear is given and eventually the film starts.

* A while now being generally planned to last until Friday. Patrick is having a birthday party in town and that could be quite a night. Cute girls shall be in attendance too.

Listened to The Flaming Lips’ Yoshimi Versus the Pink Robots a few times over the past couple of days and I’m really getting into it. I have been trying to think about who they sound like, but they don’t really sound like anybody else out there. Well, worth a listen. I also found out this morning that perhaps the reason I could not find that Mull Historical Society album at the weekend was because it only comes out today. Doh.

The second Ultimate Spider-Man hardcover was excellent. Read it through last night and really enjoyed it. Top Bendis stuff. Nothing compared to his latest two issues of Daredevil but still a great book. Um nothing else springs out has having been really great, but I shall report more later when I have read everything.

update time.

Time for some catch up stuff.

Friday morning I was chatting with my mom on AIM. We were just catching up about stuff and I was telling her about my bag. I was just about to go off into a meeting when my phone rang. Picked it up and a girl on the other end asked if I was Dave Bushe. I recognised the accent as being the same as the girl sitting at the table behind us on Wednesday night. Anyway she had my bag and had tried to get in touch with me before. On Thursday morning I had found two blank voicemails on my work phone from about 10 min after I had left the pub. I had business cards in the bag so I was kinda hoping… Anyway she had not wanted to leave a voicemail in case I thought she had stolen the bag and she wanted to talk to me. She works locally and can meet me that night to give me back my bag. She insisted on giving me her phone number so I knew she was on the level.

So I met her and she had indeed got my bag and gave it back no worries. Everything was in there and she was really nice (and as I mentioned before very cute). So all is well that ends well.

We kicked off a mini pub crawl right after I got my bag back in the hope of talent spotting. Unfortunately there was no joy on that front but we were speed drinking and got rather drunk rather quickly. Ended up (as intended) in Bar Cuba for a birthday party for one of the guys in work. The night was kicked off with some tequila (yellow and white mixed) shots brought around by a really cute girl not wearing very much with some holsters for the tequila and various glasses. Everyone was quite drunk at this stage, but some were too drunk to stand and the end of the night was called around 11ish. Well…the end for some people anyway. 3 of us continued onto the Hilton bar where we were again unsuccessful in talent spotting but a double JD ended the night for me.

Today was comics day…but it kinda turned into a lot more. I slept in till late (1ish) and was quite glad and a little surprised to not be hungover. Hit Avalon where I was quite happy to find the second Ultimate Spider-Man hardcover was in, so got that and the usual other bits and pieces. While I was in the shop Coldplay’s latest single Clocks was playing on the radio and I decided I really liked it. So seen as I wanted some new music I figured I would pick up their new album. I was looking for the latest album by the Mull Historical Society but couldn’t find it anywhere locally in Clapham Junction.

I also wanted some dvds, namely the Stargate stuff I was missing but it was £20 per dvd and that’s way too much. So I figured I would get a bus pass and go into town (via the Virgin Megastore on Kings Road). So long story short, I was in two Virgins (hur hur), Tower, HMV and W.H. Smith and there was no joy on the dvds or the music. So I did pick up the new Coldplay and also the much hyped Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots by the Flaming Lips. So far so good.

Headed to ‘Eds’ for a hot-dog for dinner. Wander in to a table down the back thinking as I pass the guy at the first table he looks like someone I know. Couple of moments later I realise it is indeed someone I know from work, the head of what I affectionately refer to as ‘production scum’. He was just finished his meal and getting the bill so we chatted for a few minutes and he went off to do his thing and I got my food. Good guy.

Um yes so then hit Asda for some food shopping and came home. Caught up on some net stuff which I’ve missed for most of the week, watched CSI: Miami and here we are. Plan is to now read some comics and then perhaps sleep.

Work has been interesting this week. There is a hell of a lot of stuff going on and I should never have said anything about confidence. I was in a meeting last night where we were talking about some possible solutions to an unforeseen problem and once we had some up with something we were then asked if we had two days ago been a little overconfident. The only answer to this was ‘yes’, so perhaps next time I’ll just say nothing. It was not a nice meeting, while it was not aggressive (much) it was very tense and not fun. More to come on Monday from the looks of it. I can’t wait 🙁

Um there was a joke line I had to share. I don’t remember it. I know I had more than this to write but it’s just not coming together right now. Oh there it is.

Still not sure on this ‘beard’ business but it is begining to grow on me (ha ha ha groan) just rather slowly.

Oh yes I’m reading No Logo. It was the book I picked to move onto on Friday morning so I have to finish it before going back to Dot Con. I picked it up sometime last year and read the first few pages. Must not have been in the mood at the time because I couldn’t get into it. This time around however I’m enjoying it a lot. It has already had me thinking about my brands and relationships with some of them and fits in nicely with some recent recurring thoughts about image and stuff.

Broadband coming this week at home.

Got my bag and all my stuff back. Added bonus, she was very cute and I have her phone number.
