I find it kinda funny, I find it kinda sad.

I have a feeling that someone missed an important one liner in a conversation last night; mileage. If your referring to that at all, I will remind you that I have a spare room too.

Ken Doherty is making a damn good comeback right now. This could be a good sign. He just took the first 4 frames in today’s session. And right now, he just took the fifth frame to cut Mark William’s lead to a single frame. Easily looking like my tonight’s viewing being well setup here.

I have an episode of 24 to watch later today and then nothing much planned. May just go out and wander for a while. But it’s getting kinda late.

Four days, world-wide X2 took $155 million. Nice!

I’m going to blame it on not feeling well, had I taken anything for it would be a better explanation but I’ve had some really really fucked up dreams for the past few nights. I caught up on sleep today bigtime. I went to bed around 1 last night and slept straight through till 2:30 this afternoon.

I had been chatting with some folks and signed off around 12 to hit the sack. I probably just ran through all the channels to see if there was anything interesting on. As it turns out there was. The Hunt For Red October. This has been consistently one of my favourite movies for over 10 years. When it first came on a movie channel, it was a premium channel which we didn’t have. But the ads they showed for it had me hooked. We didn’t have a video at the time so I couldn’t even go out and rent it. I did the next best thing, I bought the book. And so began my long relationship with Tom Clancy books. We got a video shortly after that and I did rent it and loved it. It is a great movie and one that really deserves a special edition dvd. Anyway I watched the rest of the movie and then went to bed.

I’m having one of those conversations where I have no idea what to say.

It’s beautiful outside. It’s what I normally think of as pre-storm weather. It’s warm to the point of hot, fairly humid but a bit dark and overcast. For some reason I always equate this with thunderstorms. Anyway the walk was nice and I’ve some random unthoughtout thoughts to put down on paper as the expression goes.

Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to say that in life you have no regrets? I certainly think so. And just to say quickly that I also think that anyone who does say so is lying.

One should never engage in a battle of wits with the unarmed.

It’s not necessary to shout when your on your mobile. I hate it when people automatically shout when they are on the phone without even waiting to find out if the other person can hear them. I may have done it and may still do I guess but I am very aware of it and try not to do it.

Gah I’m not feeling well at all, I’m going to go and sleep right now.

A navy jet goes into a sonic boom. More here

My cold has snuck back up on me and I’m not feeling the best.

Last night I watched Queen of the Damned which despite being a good book can only be described as goth wankery. It did leave me with an urge to go back and read the 4 original Vampire Chronicles. Unfortunatly I don’t have them in London so I can’t even do that. Ah well.

I’m watching The Majestic at the moment and it’s allright. Nothing very special but I guess it’s entertaining enough for a Sunday afternoon.

Gotta go for a walk later, up to Blockbuster to return the DVD.

No other real plans for the rest of the day, I’ve been meaning to spend some time reading over the past few days. But I can’t seem to get into the mood. Last night I would have started off some Anne Rice books and probably read till late at night but nothing else is jumping out at me. That includes the two Iain Banks book’s I borrowed. I don’t want to spend the rest of the day in front of a screen, maybe just get into some reading and then leave the snooker on in the background.

You know if you are ever asking anyone for tech support about anything there is one golden rule.

Do exactly what you are told to do. Doing what you think you were told to to, or what you think the other person wants you to do is a waste of your time and their time too.

Some typing spread out over the past few hours.

Last night was quiet. Going back into work meant dealing up with the catch-up shite, denying having SARS numerous times and trying to get back to the crap I’m working on at the moment. It wasn’t the best day considering I felt worse yesterday. Ah well.

Headed out after work for just a chat really. I wasn’t up to making a night out of it. So we chatted down the pub for a while and then I called it a night and was home around 10ish.

One of the lads lent me two more Iain Banks books and I’m looking forward to reading them. I also remembered to bring home those dvds which had been sitting in my desk and I intend to do some watching tonight.

Paul Hunter put up a really good fight, but I’m very glad to see Ken Doherty through to the final. Hunter was up 15 frames to 9 won 6 out of the next 7 and then Ken took the last frame. A stunning match. It’s looking likely he’ll be facing Mark Williams in the final on Monday which should be a good game.

The word of the day is paradox. It’s a little funny when two completely opposite points of view can both be 100% correct at the same time. Perhaps paradox isn’t the best word for it but it seems to be fitting in my head today.

I have some southern fried chicken and some garlic bread in the oven right now. I’m starving so hopefully it will work out well. Slouch in front of the tv for the rest of the night and watch stuff. I like the sound of that quite a bit 😉

I was over in Spar just picking up some dinner and other bits and pieces. Went up to the counter to pay and there was a display stand for newspapers. The Guardian was at the top and it was three photos and captions above the fold. The third photo caught my attention and the headlines did the rest. So one newspaper now beside me for reading too.

Update: The chicken was really nice and I’m just waiting for the garlic bread to be done a little more. I like garlic a lot, luckily enough I’ve never dated anyone who didn’t like it. Garlic bread is easily a favourite food. Garlic chicken is also a good thing.

I have just been very disappointed about two minutes into CSI when I realised it was CSI: Miami. It’s by far the lesser show and I had been looking forward to some good drama. It’ll do I guess but not ideal.

Another update: It is indeed a Mark Williams – Ken Doherty.

VANCOUVER – A top White House drug policy official is threatening retaliation from the U.S. if Canada relaxes its laws against marijuana possession.
.

I guess next up are accusations of wmd in Canada and then an invasion. For the better good of the world of course.

This snooker semi-final is excellent. Doherty and Hunter deciding game.

good one liners

– Matrix tickets booked.

– London is a big and lonely city.

– J’accuse.

– Long weekends rock.

– bed early to read sounds so very good.

– I strongly dislike smokers.

– I’m only happy when it rains.

– Had you a chance to speak to yourself 10 years ago, what’s the one thing you would say?

Londo: “My shoes are too tight.”
Vir: “Excuse me?”
Londo: “Something my father said. He was old, very old at the time. I went into his room and he was, sitting alone in the dark, crying. So I asked him what was wrong and he said, ‘My shoes are too tight, but it doesn’t matter, because I have forgotten have to dance’. I never understood what that meant until now. My shoes are too tight and I have forgotten how to dance.”

– Warren Ellis’ Orbiter is his best work since early Transmet and more than worth reading. Some beautiful artwork from Colleen Doran, nothing more spectacular than on the front cover.

Angel Peace out..hmm an average episode majorly picked up by the last scene. Damn Lilah was looking good. And a set-up going back to Wolfram and Hart for season five could really work out well. Liked the fact that Connor could see the ‘real’ Jasmine all a long.

– Reading a lot today, I still have a headache and nothing is clearing it away. Vertigo Pop: London was a good read through to the end. I had read the first two and wasn’t all that impressed. Together it’s not bad. This could do well in trade. Captain Marvel. Not bad, finished the first story arc and it wasn’t bad at all. This should also do well in trades and quite deserves to aswell.

– Picked up a paper while I was getting milk and bread a while ago. The Evening Standard had a free “Best of the 90s” cd and I figured I would read the news and see what the cd had. It’s not bad actually. Starts off with Vanilla Ice and Mc Hammer which are good for novelty value but it has some good stuff on it too. Just moved into Tasmin Archer’s Sleeping Satellite.

– I’m in a Batman mood. I’ve always like the character alot, especially the darker stuff. Obviously that points a lot towards Frank Miller but I like a lot of more recent takes on him too. In particular the divide between Bruce Wayne and Batman. The fact that Bruce Wayne is Batman’s secret identity and not the other way around. There is a a series running in trades at the moment which I have book 1 of. The next two books are out and I have such an urge to go into town and get them. But I don’t really feel up to it.

– A large group from the V are going to see X2 tonight. I’m quite jealous. It’s a film which richly deserves to be seen for the first time in the company of a large number of comic book fans. The opening scene with Nightcrawler rocks hard, but if your going in knowing who Nightcrawler is and seeing what they do with him on screen it’s just so awesome. Don’t get me wrong, I’m thrilled to have seen a preview but I didn’t see it with anyone who was going into it as a fan. While I was sitting there loving every second if it, there in a crowd of people doing the same would be an awesome experience. The excitement building on the forums is great 🙂

– I am such a geek

Guardian article on tv show file sharing.

– I should be at End of Days this weekend. I’m a little annoyed I won’t be there but *shrug* It happens.

– There is a discussion going on at Sk8 J about the Anita Blake books. I did see a new one out last week and didn’t really give it all that much thought. We talked about them on the V a while ago and I think I blogged about them. Anyway as it turns out this book is yet more of the same. No plot, all smut. Anita starts sleeping with Jason on a regular basis… That’s me done unless I see the word Edward on the back cover.

– I’ve not heard much good about Dreamcatcher but I read and enjoyed the book and I do want to see the movie. Sometime this weekend perhaps.
