You shine alone.

So it’s Monday. The first day of a new week and all that. How does it start? Well I managed to leave my fob and secure-id at home. So not only was I not able to get into the building, I wasn’t able to log on.

I hope this is not a portent for the week to come.

Soundtrack is the stunningly pretty: ( ) by Sigur Ros. Getting to track 3, I could almost be lulled into a deep sleep, it’s so very pretty. Haunting, that’s the word I wanted, it’s haunting.

Today isn’t all that hectic, so far anyway. That may change later but doesn’t look much like it. Lunch I expect shall involve the park, some sunshine and a chess set. I like the sound of this.

The office is quiet today. There are a lot of people away on business or pleasure and so it’s pretty empty around me too.

Moved onto 18 till I Die by Bryan Adams last night and the tracks which I remember as being standout, are not as standout as I remember and the stuff I wasn’t so fond of is not actually that bad at all. Hmm, Didn’t give it all that full a listen so I might try it again later today.

So.There.
I’ve mentioned this site before. I don’t go there all that often but when I do it usually gets to me. It’s a such a simple site and yet so very elegant. I probably won’t go back to it for a few months now but oh I don’t know. I just don’t know.

others, they’re searching for real life.

So a night out playing pool it was. It didn’t start well, Nick took a lead of three straight games and the scene was set. I took three of the next four games and then it was pretty even for the next while. I was no-more than one game behind at any stage. We were playing first to 10 games took it. So when it was 8 – 7 to Nick, it was getting close. However the next two games were mine, one of them in style as I cleared 5 balls in a row in sheer genius shots. Came to the black which was not on and joked I should take the shot with my eyes closed and the cue running behind my back. So I did and you guessed it, it went in. It was just one of those moments. Anyway that was 9 – 8 to me and while Nick managed to take the next game, I took the decider on a black ball game and victory was mine. We played a little 9 ball for a while and victory was mine too! All in all a good night.

Going to take it easy for the next couple of weeks. I want to get my cleaning finished and watch some of these movies which are piling up. Also I want to save some moolah for Glastonbury which is coming up fast and aswell as that I have to buy that suit. So yes, taking it easy. Work in the morning I think will be slow. Need to have a catch-up with my boss about the meeting last week and see if there is any definitive word on anything really. It would be nice having a little um security isn’t the right word but it’s kinda close I guess.

Google is your friend. You should remember this at all times.

Right, reading and sleeping are in order.

timing

[15:09:31] Nick: shall do
[16:52:08] Nick: see you at 6 :o) heading off now
[16:52:10] Dave : 6 still good?
[16:52:11] Dave : lol
[16:52:17] Dave Bushe: guess that’s a yes then
[16:52:18] Nick: lol
[16:52:22] Nick: timing
[16:52:24] Dave : see you then

Do I have to say the words?

Last night was in the Cittie of Yorke. It’s an old pub with a lot of history and it looks it. The plan was to all meet up in there and then see how the night goes. We ended up leaving at around 10 and going back about 5 minutes later when we realised there was nothing else around to move on to. So we went right back in for another hours drinking and then stumbled home. It was, I feel I should note a really good night. The drinks were not only really nice, but dirt cheap too. We ran a kitty for the night and throwing in £20 got your drinks for the night and then some. It was all good.

Today I think will involve some sitting in the park in the sunshine with my discman and a book and a bottle of proper lemonade. It will also involve food fairly soon, perhaps a nice fry-up in the cafe across the road. I’ll watch the race later and maybe a movie at some stage. All in all it will be quiet and undemanding.

Oh something I meant to post about over the past few days. The following are a listing of albums which I consider to have changed my life in some small way.

Greatest Hits II by Queen.
Quite simply the first music I was really exposed to. When it’s quality of this sort, you just can’t go wrong.
Bad by Michael Jackson.
The first album I owned. My dad brought it back for me by request from some business trip he had been on.
Automatic for the People by R.E.M.
What can I say about this album, it’s just plainly a classic.
Ok Computer by Radiohead
I’ve blogged about this a few times, it spun my musical taste off into wondrous new directions.
Agaetis Byrjun by Sigur Ros
Again, what can I say about this album. It’s beautiful

And I see Sigur Ros are playing London the first weekend of August, you know what that means. My wallet just got a little lighter. Whoo hoo, I’m already looking forward to this and I see them at Glastonbury in just two weeks time. r00t!

Microsoft have halted development on IE for Mac. They cite Safari as a big reason for this. It’s interesting, I’m looking forward to the 1.0 release of Safari and I expect that it should reach most Mac users in the near future. News.com story here

The soundtrack for the weekend has been Waking up the Neighbours by Bryan Adams. This was also one of my earliest records and it reminds me of simpler times. It’s not as dated as I thought it would be and some of the tracks on it are really good stuff. It’s got some good lyrics too and I’m a sucker for good lyrics. And yes I do quite like that song.

The new Harry Potter book comes out next week and of course there is way too much shite going around about it. The V has declared the topic off limits (yay) and seen as I’ve not read any of the others I have no intention of reading this one.

Yesterday I know I agreed to do something next weekend but I can’t think for the life of me what it was. I’m sure it will come back to me at some stage in the week.

Today’s word of the day is:

sarcasm

t noun [MASS NOUN] the use of irony to mock or convey contempt: she didn’t like the note of sarcasm in his voice.

—ORIGIN mid 16th cent.: from French sarcasme, or via late Latin from late Greek sarkasmos, from Greek sarkazein ‘tear flesh’, in late Greek ‘gnash the teeth, speak bitterly’ (from sarx, sark– ‘flesh’).

I was very happy to note while browsing in Forbidden Planet yesterday afternoon that there is a third Alistair Reynolds book available now. I shall pick it up when I finish Chasm City. And indeed a quick google has thrown up some more books. Cool.

Plans for the day have changed now. I’m meeting Nick in a while and we are going to spend the night in Rileys playing some pool.

Home, alive and hungover, but still drunk too.

Typing tomorrow perhaps, I have much to share.

Going to Fred’s stag now. It should be a very long but very fun day. Updates Tuesday or so when I’m back from the dead.

There isn’t much going on at the moment. I was going to sit down and write some stuff tonight but I was watching Jonathon Ross and it was quite funny so I didn’t. I don’t want to quickly sum up what’s going on but I’ll do a little anyway.

This is from last night, it didn’t publish properly
