and now the typing.

Been all over the place today music wise. White Stripes, Semisonic, The Strokes, The Frames and Johnny Cash. It’s been a strange day. It got quite prodouctive for a while to as I got the answer to something which was frustrating me. I was trying to take some options off of a page and I kept going in and taking them off but once they were in the compiled code, they were still there. It was strange. After doing some looking into it and confirming that I was not mad I made a phone call and got it sorted out. The line which sets the items to invisible is no longer in use and I needed some new code. It was so nice to be able to close out half of my bugs on it in a couple of hours. It felt damn good too. I also managed to get my unit testing tool working aswell which saves so much hassle so it was generally a good working day.

Really really chuffed about that Radiohead ticket. I was browsing Wayahead just looking to see what there was and it showed up in the top sellers. Given that until now it was sold out I wondered how this could be, a couple of clicks later and it’s all good. So that’s two double bills, Ryan Adams followed by Radiohead the next night at the end of this month and then Kings of Leon with Iron Maiden the next night in the middle of December. God I love music 🙂

Reading wise, well I got the latest two Peter David: Star Trek: New Frontier books. Flew through them in a couple of days and enjoyed the hell out of them. Finished off all the Lehane series last week and then with them all done started off on Bret Easton Ellis’s The Rules of Attraction. The style takes a few pages to get into but then it just clicks and the entire novel switches between POV. I’m enjoying it a lot. I know it’s fiction but the completely different viewpoints of the same events come across pertty damn well. I’ll buy the DVD at the end of the month I think.

Still not caught up on email…tho this is more laziness now than anything else, I don’t want to go through it all but I will…soonish. I really will…uh huh.

So yeah the Age of Empires thing. Seems to stem simply from finding the disks while unpacking and installing it. It’s a couple of hours late in the evenings now at least and sometimes I little more.

Um yeah I’m kinda stuck now on this one. I’ve got loads more unpacking to do, it’s happening oh so slowly. I think it will be at least another 10 days till I get paid and I can go ahead and get some shelves in. Then I can actually get some stuff out of the boxes and take it from there.

My great aunt died early this morning. I’m not even sure I’ve ever met her. The email from my mom with the info was prefixed with she’s been ill for a long time which of course I did not know either. It was still a strange moment reading it. She lived over in the UK (somewhere) so I don’t know if the funeral will be here or back in Ireland. If it’s here I could be seeing some of my family a lot sooner than I had expected and will more than likely have to find my suit and get it cleaned (yay).

I don’t have a video player in the new flat so I don’t have a way to watch all those West Wing eps which Hugh has been kindly taping for me. Will have to sort that one out too…but moreso a computer. The lack of downloading is not fun 🙁

George Bush arrives in the UK tomorrow to protests and a lot of them from the sound of it. It all seems to have been timed nicely. No weekends and no evening stuff on. So for everyone in work who would like to go out and greet him appropriatly, it’s just not on. I am considering taking a half day on Thursday to be able to join the full protest early but I gotta see how it goes. It’s posing some issues and some real concern that his “security” could actually shoot and kill on the streets of London.

I watched the first few episodes of the second season of The Office last night. Funny but hard to watch at times.

I was going to come home and sit down and blog about stuff…but now I’m not.

I got back into Age of Empires a few days ago and I’m off to play some more now.

Radiohead just released more tickets for their London shows.

So I got a standing ticket to see them on the 27th of this month…for the fourth time this year. Fuck yes 🙂 🙂 🙂

Yes Pain

So last night was messy.
Not many people showed up (cheers lads) but we had a good time and lots to drink. Yesterday afternoon I did some shopping and picked up some vodka and some rum just in case we ended up back here for a nightcap. That was a bad idea. It went on till about 2.30 am and then it was sleep…or collapsing into blackness whichever you prefer.

It can best be summed up this morning by a text message from Nick
“Yes Pain”

So I’ve not been very good at updating this lately. I’ve also ignored most of my email for the past week. It’s just not something I’ve had a chance to get through.

Last night was pub and chat and pub in that order. All was good, hit another of my new locals, the Pembroke Castle and it was allright.

There isn’t really much going on. Work is the same as ever with it’s ups and downs. Generally going well(ish), one major issue out of the way and some progress being made on others.

On the other front, I like my new flat and I really like the area. Turns out that aswell as having a friend from work in the neighbourhood, another V member lives just down the road aswell. I wonder what my liver will say of this neighbourhood in a few months time.

The walk to the tube in the morning is quite nice and there are always stacks of Metros so I get a paper on the way. A seat on the train would be nice, but I guess that’s the way it is.

I had breakfast on Monday as I had time to kill waiting for the shower and I did actually feel so much better for the day. Perhaps this is something I should look into on a daily basis…and yes I can hear the chorus of “d’uhs” thanks.

There have been two tunes of the day today.

Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes. I want the Flaming Lips live version of this.

Hurt by Johnny Cash. It’s bitter sweet.

I hate nothing being in my country sometimes. I hate not knowing it and I hate not being it.

Fuck.

Jane’s Addiction were good. I got stoned just by the fumes around.

Gah.
Going to see Jane’s Addiction this evening.

Having Housewarming of a sorts on Saturday night. Just managed to get some details together (god I’m shit).
Meeting McGill for drinks the weekend after.

I have such a backlog of email to get through for work nevermind at home.

GAH

Went home last night, got home pretty quick too. Chilled around in the flat for a while reading and then around 9pm went off to meet Jen in my new local pub. About 5 minutes after we met up, Rich rang to say he was in the area and did I fancy a drink. So he came along for a while and that was the rest of the night. It was really nice having people local to home. Having a couple of hours at home after work and then meeting friends down the pub was such a nice experience. It was much more relaxing than the normal out of work down the pub. Nice pub too. I think I’m going to really like living in my new place.

I have to go back towards my old place tonight. I have some a letter being held in the post office for me and it’s got my tickets for Jane’s Addiction tomorrow night so I need to go and collect them. Then it’s home for the newly rescheduled chat later this evening and a quiet one in doors. At least that’s the plan.

I’m still not use to my new place at all. Sleeping there is strange and I have yet to have a full nights sleep. The walk to the station this morning was nice and woke me up a little. I really should walk it more often. I need to be out of my place by 8:40 to get into work for 9:30 it would appear….however results differ every day.

As I sit here listening to disc 2 of Iron Maiden’s Rock In Rio the thought strikes, live music is one of the best things in the world.
