That is all.
Month: October 2004
Kings of Leon in The Forum tonight. Now that was an excellent excellent gig. Completly sold me on the new album. Really glad I booked a ticket to see them again in a few weeks.
Yikes, I guess I better start naming everyone I talk about!
Dublin booked. 24 – 29 November.
Dinner, drinks and cute Irish girls.
Yay!
4.5 days left for this year. I can carry 5 till the end of March so that’s not so bad. I’ll take a long weekend or two before the end of the year and that’ll be that.
state of the dave
I once knew someone who was actually a staunch George W. Bush supporter. We argued over it a bit sometime seriously. It surprised me then that someone could actually say and believe “George W. Bush is a good man”. I wonder what she thinks now.
I’m hopeful that John Kerry will win the election on Tuesday but at the same time, I have a dread that Bush will win again. It certainly looks close. I’ve been following Electoral Vote Predictor 2004 daily and it’s swinging a whole lot. I’m hoping that a whole lot of the undecideds or the people who had not intended (or stated an intent to vote) will turn out for Kerry on Tuesday and the world will be a safer place again. It’s a little strange, I don’t think I’m actually going to believe it’s an honest election unless Kerry wins. Even if Bush does win it, there are already serious allegations of missing ballots within Florida, all from a mainly Democratic area of course. I’ll move my tv into the back room on Tuesday so I can play around online while watching the counts. That could be an allnighter. Having said that I’ve just gone looking for the TV schedules for the evening/morning then and none of them seem to be showing anything on the basic channels.
I’m now getting stupidly excited about the new U2 album. I liked Vertigo on first listen and it’s grown on me so much since. I’m listening to a live version done for CD UK a couple of weeks ago and it’s going to be huge done live. I think the single’s going to be massive, the video seems to have gone into rotation this morning and is already getting lots and lots of airplay. It’s a decent video, hoping there will be a good high quality torrent of it soon.
Album is out November 23rd. With luck there will be the chance to stream it or listen to it via the magic blue cable within the next couple of weeks. Cannot wait, it’s gonna be a good one.
Also really looking forward to the new Kings of Leon album. The new single isn’t bad at all. It came out on iTunes last night and one of the lads in work enjoyed it a lot. I’m not sure I’ll get it there as I want the CD itself. With luck there will be somewhere else to hear it this evening before I’m off to see them at the Forum tomorrow night. Yay! They have just added another London date before the end of the year. I’m not gonna head along to it, I think twice is enough but I really hope they do well with this album. It’s certainly looking good for them.
I’m right back into a live music being the best thing in the world ever moment, it’s not really a moment, but it just takes some reminding of how fucking good it is every now and again. Soulwax certainly did that last night and it’s shaping up to be a really good few weeks of music. Now U2 just need to announce a tour and I’ll get some tickets for several nights of that and it’ll all be good.
I suspect I’m going to be taking a half day for the opening of the Apple Store in London at the end of November. I want a) some free swag and b) the chance to buy an iPod and that cheap. My sister is on her way home for her graduation (probably in flight now) and with any luck she’ll get me a nice tax free iPod at the cheaper Japanese prices. I have hope, if not I’m pretty sure I’ll leave the Apple store with one at the end of the month.
Lovely new iTunes feature in 4.7 which allows you to search for dupes of songs. Somewhat limited, only by song name and artist at the moment so it doesn’t get live versions but a good start for management tools.
Have to book some time home, will do that after lunch today. A week at the end of November is the plan. Looking forward to spending some time catching up with family and friends.
The Incredibles was excellent and the Soulwax gig was really good.
A good day.
The video for U2’s new single Vertigo is excellent. It’s an AOL exclusive today. Quite annoyed no-one thought to mention this to me before now. Really looking forward to the album now, it’s all sounding like it’s going to work really well.
Really interesting article about perhaps another take on Donnie Darko here
I’m back in the office today after the rescheduled course. It was really good. A couple of short days around Crossharbour so a nice area too. I went to bed early last night and caught up on some sleep so I’m in a fairly good mood all in all.
Today hasn’t been so bad either. A good meeting first thing and well nothing bad since. I don’t count the stupid stupid way I threw away a game of chess at lunch but ya know shit happens.
Game stuff.
Eve first. Shiva has been renamed to Exodus to go along with the storyline. Looking forward to it quite a bit. I’m still just skilling but hopefully I’ll get back into playing it soon enough and will be able to find a new corp and have some fun. Agent running a little for the time being and getting all my learning skills and that up. Yay.
City of Heroes.
Still 29 and a bit on my main but I dinged 16 with my main alt last night. Annoyed at the power selection available, I was really hoping for a buff but no joy. Ah well. Gonna take more and more time now to get him up to anything really useful, but I shall see how it goes. Big event coming up this weekend, hoping to get some really nice badge hunting in and get a nice accolade. I’m all ready for it and the two I need should become available during the event. Really like the idea of picking up lots of enhancements too. Good fun all round and hopefully some good teaming going there. Yay.
Tomorrow I have a half day, I’m going to see The Incredibles with Andrew, Alastair and Alex. Hopefully a nice lunch somewhere before that. Off to the pub I guess afterwards before heading down to the Astoria to see Soulwax. Both Lawrence and Ciaran have dropped out which is a shame.
Murder One is good fun and I’m enjoying it. Should finish it by the weekend and I noticed last night that season 2 is now out along with all three seasons of Millennium. May well be time for an Amazon order. DS9 is on sale and I very nearly bought some seasons. I don’t know if I want to start at the start or to just pick the really good seasons and go with them. Ditto for B5. Had season 5 been on sale I’d have picked that up, but it wasn’t even on the shelf. I’ve only seen each episode there the once (if even) and would like to check em out again. It’s possibly a good thing that I don’t have a few hundred quid to spend on DVDs. I’ve been enjoying head to bed a little earlier than normal and watching them, I may well pick something else and continue on with that. It’s been a long time since I actually sat down and watched a movie. I’ve a whole load of unwatched and it would be nice to work through some of them.
Well this is quite a nerdy post after all that. Booked a couple more gigs there last night. Off to see The Subways in Barfly late on Friday night and The Polyphonic Spree on Saturday week. Another one lined up for next year with Rammstein playing in Brixton Academy. It’s been a while since I had so many gigs lined up so I’m quite pleased with that. Got two more for later in the year, a tiny gig by The Frames which I’m very happy that I was online when the email came out and The Subways again headlining the Garage. Them and The Duke Spiritare two to keep an eye on at the moment.
I see I’ve not posted much here in a while. It was a good weekend overall. Saturday I was meant to be meeting some old friends (and a new friend) from Dublin and heading out. But that all got moved to Sunday on late notice so I spent the evening in the bar at the Comics Festival with assorted V types. It was good fun and an unusual mix of people around.
Sunday was quiet enough, the people staying left pretty early and in the evening I went down Brick Lane for dinner. It was really nice food and great company. Left me (again) with lots of thoughts of things way back when and things now. Really nice to see everyone again. Going to be booking some time home later this evening. A week I think (in between gigs) sometime either the end of this November or the very start of December.
Comics are a bit shit really aren’t they? Some good stuff out tomororw but I really should move to trades on everything, singles just aren’t worth it. Superman: Birthright HC tomorrow anyway and I believe DD and the next Black Widow. Cut down time anyway for sure.
Home time.
Not happy.
