A while ago Budgie posted about the first season of Murder One being released on DVD. It came out a couple of weeks ago and my copy arrived yesterday. So last night I watched the first four episodes. I had planned to watch two and then get some sleep but it just didn’t work out.
I loved it when it first aired. RTE had it a few weeks before whichever UK channel did and I think it went out on Sunday evenings. Loved the cast, thought that Stanley Tucci was excellent as Richard Cross and Daniel Benzali was spot on for Hoffman.
I may be looking back through tinted glasses. Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoyed watching it again last night but I wasn’t as impressed with the cast.
Benzali came across as really wooden in places, in particular in a talk with the DA in a courtroom in the fourth episode where it literally marches out. It looked really bad. It threw me a little. I’m hoping it picks up a little as the series goes on and it’s more like I remembered. The tension from Hoffman towards Cross seems fairly overplayed already, I enjoy their scenes and I’m still impressed with Tucci.
Luckily, I don’t actually remember how the first season ends. Afterall it is eight years since I watched it and I’m looking forward to a couple of episodes a night for the next week or so until I reach the end.
Theme music isn’t as good as I remember it, but it’s still a nice piece of muisic.
