Stuff

Work is getting me down at the moment. There is some bad stuff going on and it just feels worse as it gets closer to actually happening. I had a problem like this before about a year ago and it never felt like this. Liking someone and knowing this shouldn’t be happening changes that view I guess. I was talking to a friend about this a few nights ago and this was pretty much the summing up of the conversation:
Dave:…it just doesn’t feel good
Mary: Sheesh. Dave, it’s not SUPPOSED to feel good

Thanks Mary 🙂 ,but I’m not gonna talk about this anymore, hopefully it can all just go away and be done with.

In other news, one of the girls from our sister team left yesterday to go to another (and better) job. So yesterday was a nice long lunch outside in the sunshine and last night was some drinks…ok, a lot of drinks. Both were fun, learnt some interesting things about some people I work worth.

On that note, I have something to say, a lack of interest and self absorption are not the same thing 😉

Today was damn hot, hottest day of the year so far. Got a call from Pat earlier saying he was in town and did I fancy meeting up. Picked up a couple of comics too, a new Lucifer trade and Jamie Rich’s Cut my Hair which I am looking forward to a lot. I picked up the next Lone Wolf and Cub aswell, on that note a friend from work lent me Shogun Assasin the long time banned in the UK, movie adaptation of LW&C. I’m looking forward to watching it a lot.

We then went to see The Sum of All Fears. I had read and enjoyed the book, I’m a long time Clancy fan. To be honest I wasn’t expecting all that much from the movie and I was really impressed with it. Ben Affleck, I’ve never thought of him as a good actor, he just seems to be able to play Ben Affleck was passable and did ok as Jack Ryan. The rest of the cast was superb. A real all star cast with Morgan Freeman, James Cromwell, Bruce McGill, Philip Baker Hall, and Ron Rifkin all giving excellent as you would expect. Also a real standout from Liev Schreiber as John Clark. I’m hoping that if they continue with John Clark in movies that we will see him in the role again.

CSI tonight was excellent, William Petersen is fantastic as Gil and supported by a top-notch cast.

This ActiveBuddy’s Patent Win Riles IM Bot Developers is a very bad patent…and I know at least one person that developed this long before ActiveBuddy.

If you write for a blog, you should go and read this :A List Apart: 10 Tips on Writing the Living Web, if you write for anything on the web, you should go and read it.

A few really great paragraphs stand out:
If your writing is a personal journal, and if it is honest, you will have to write about things that you find embarrassing to describe, feelings you might not want to share, events that you wouldn’t mention to strangers (or, perhaps, to anyone). Decide now what you will do, before it happens.

To be honest with the world, you may need to be honest with your mother; if you cannot face your mother, perhaps you are not ready to write for the world.

Don’t worry too much about correctness: Find a voice and use it. Most readers will overlook, and nearly all will forgive, errors in punctuation and spelling.

go read it.

I’m looking forward to getting to play with OS X 10.2 soon and this Mac World review sounds pretty good. Lots of fun to come!
