Right so then Ted, I’m in Tokyo.

It still hasn’t really set in, but I am lying on my bed in a hotel in Tokyo. The flight was uneventful and not too bad. No upgrade unfortunately, but we got seated at an emergency exit and that was not too bad at all. Watched one movie which possibly qualifies as movie of the year, Donnie Darko. Truly stunning. More on that later.

We are meeting up with my sister in about an hour and I’m off to get a digital camera so I can put some photos here. First impressions are Tokyo is a very disjointed city. No two buildings are alike. Its all a mish mash of stuff.

I figured out what I was so nervous about and indeed it is still and will continue to be a problem. Language. I have never been anywhere before where I could not carry on a conversation. My only foreign language country to date has been France and I studied French for six years. Even coming through customs, etc. was intimidating and they all spoke English. I haven’t even got a few phrases, and I feel pretty shitty about that. Patrick’s Japanese…well I’m not quite sure yet. I shall let you know how that one goes. I am somewhat grateful that at least my sister will have a better idea.

Got some good books in the airport that I have been waiting on for a while and a nice new watch to replace the one I broke possibly a year ago.

Oh and the thing I forgot? Razors, I shall have to pick some up.

I’m in Japan. It seems kinda weird. I just never thought I would end up here. I mean its Japan!

Anyways in quite a sad piece of news, internet access is not a problem and indeed had I network card the hotel provides high speed access for free. Do’h
