I’m watching the beeb and they have just shown a piece about how a group of coalition soldiers took a town which had got some Iraqi troops holed up in a building in the centre. Impressive footage or as the reporters seem to like calling it; dramatic pictures.

Had I the heavens’ embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams

WinMX is rocking my world in the best of ways. I’ve got a gig (give or take a few mb) of live tracks or live covers of songs I love. It’s just so very awesome. Quite a Sigur Ros, Radiohead, R.E.M., Smashing Pumpkins and U2 showing but some other cool stuff slipping in there aswell. On as equally a good note, I have some new Radiohead material. It’s all good, now if only my computer would behave.

I’m listening to Beautiful Day from Slane ’01 and it’s a really bad recording as it’s mainly the crowd singing and gotta pump the volume up to full to hear the music and Bono singing. It’s one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever heard.

Caught up on 24 yesterday and it was ok. Nothing really great but it was ok. Heading out to the cinema later on with a detour for food somewhere along the way and possibly some pool playing too.

Was talking to a friend last night and after spending a few minutes wondering why she thought it was Saturday, I realised that I was wrong and it was not in fact Friday, but late Saturday night. This was followed by the thought that I had no breakfast, lunch or dinner on Friday so there was lots of drinking on top of an empty stomach. The normal coke and candy to get through the day not withstanding. Damn, no wonder I was so hungover.

Today has been a quiet day. Slept in till 12ish and then didn’t really do much. Watched the Grand Prix, and may just be getting back into it. If the rest of the season goes like the first two races have, it could be really good.

On the war news front, the friendly fire casualties are really adding up. Latest news would seem to show that the missing ITN news reporters are believed to have been killed by coalition fire. Added to that, an RAF plane was shot down by US Patriot missiles thinking it was a scud. I have to say I’m a little stumped by people showing surprise that there are parts of the Iraqi army actually fighting. They seem to be missing the point that the US led “coalition of the willing” is invading their country. I really can’t imagine why anyone would want to fight the forces invading their country </sarcasm>. And I note that to date, the only weapons of mass desruction have been used by the invaders.

Listening to some of the music which I’m listening to and loving everyone moment of right now is also depressing the fuck out of me. So I’m going to go and I’m going to get some food and I’m going to load up my discman with the best of U2 from the nineties and just see where the flow goes…although the 80’s is very tempting.

Not a very long piece of string then.

Ok fine, I can’t hack it. I enjoy and look forward to writing here too much to give it up. Going home last night, blogging about stuff was one of the thoughts weighing on my mind. So I guess for the time being, the blogging shall continue.

Right last night was fucked up is possibly a good description. As it was a Friday and one of the guys was leaving in work, we went to the pub for some drinks. This of course ensured a good turnout and there were lots of people there. Unfortunately events of the night lead to either conclusions or indeed closure. Oh for fuck sake, I’m sitting here with CD:UK on in the background and Cat Deeley has just said something along the lines of “and here is Busted with a song about being turned down by the girl you fancy”. It takes the idea a step far but could sum up last night quite a bit.

I used the words “I don’t understand” so many times last night and I still don’t understand. (ohh on the good news front, CD:UK has just moved onto a lovely little live version of Coldplay’s Clocks). Nothing seems to make sense and even in the cold sober (yet hungover) light of day it makes little sense. *sigh* I guess that is just the way of the world…

In other news Things My Girlfriend and I Have Argued About did the rounds of the office yesterday and had me and many others in stitches for a long time. Well, worth a read and if nothing here makes you laugh you just don’t have a sense of humour.

In world news, war is bad and yet again I’m like the rest of the world waking up to see images of the US and the UK pounding Baghdad into the ground. BBC news reported that 300 missiles/bombs were used overnight. For FUCK sake.

Ananova: Angry Russians offered free calls to White House

A Russian telecoms company is offering free phone calls to the White House for anyone who wants to rant at George Bush. Excom in the west Russian city of Yekaterinburg said almost 1,000 people have taken advantage of the offer. Calls have ranged from two to 20 minutes and the tempers of some people have boiled over. Phone operator Irina Natakhina said: “Mostly men call almost every 10 minutes and demand to be put through to the White House. When they have to wait they even begin swearing at me.” Excom general director Konstantin Ivanov found the number on the internet and said the offer will continue indefinitely.

“Phone Bush. Call him a cunt. It’s good to talk.”

Props to Jon Nagl on the V for that one.

It’s all a mystery

So I finally get a chance to talk to someone. I was somewhat caught off guard as I wasn’t expecting her to walk up behind me at that very moment. Anyway we chatted for a moment and somewhat luckily I had either tabbed out of AOL or had been skiving off and didn’t have it open as I noticed a couple of people (naming no names Nicholas and Patrick) pointing and grinning and typing furiously. That kinda killed off the conversation but hopefully as the im’s were hidden it didn’t cause too much damage but it most certainly was not helpful. Thanks lads.

So it would appear that in exactly one hour from now (I’m writing this at 00:00), there is nothing to stop the US from going to war. The ‘ultimatum’ given by ‘President’ Bush expires and he seemingly intends to invade a sovereign country to replace it’s leader. It’s a sad day for the world when the strongest country in the world decides that for that reason alone it is best suited to policing the world and it will just do whatever the fuck it likes. I have to wonder how long it will take to restore the reputation of the US in the international community. I can only hope that George W Bush is never given a second term, that can only be a good start to making things better.

And you know what else? Should anything happen now in America or England or many other places, they ain’t terrorist attacks. They are legitimate targets. If a wmd is set off in London for example then it is simply part of war and the world has to live with that. Obviously a number of people will have to live without it but all those governments have made themselves and their countries legitimate targets. I cannot see any reason at all for Iraq not to use any weapons it has and use them to the best effect. The ‘coalition of the willing’ is going in there to depose a government, so one way or another it’s going down. Why not go down fighting as best you can?

Fuckers. This isn’t what the people want, more than anything else the people have shown they don’t want this. I hate the fact that in this day and age a single person can cause such fucking bollocks. That’s all this is. one man’s crusade to finish something his father started or simple revenge. It almost makes me sick to hear any news reports quoting or reporting that Iraq and Al Queda are linked, it’s all just a load of bollocks.

Fuck you America.

– work tomorrow shall begin with the doleing out of real crisps ritual with an extra person involved this time around.
– broadband rocks
– I miss Dublin a lot. I really don’t like London as a city.
