Nemesis

…was surprisingly not bad. Certainly nothing like as bad as it has been made out to be and some genuinely good moments. The wedding at the start could have done with a lot more cameos, Wil Wheaton was actually spotted a couple of times and Whoopi Goldberg did get a funny line. The guest cast was pretty strong but completely underused; Dina Meyer almost unrecognisable under makeup and Ron Perlman completely unrecognisable.
Overall I enjoyed it and will pick up the dvd, but I really hope to see the more than 50 minutes cut from the movie hit the dvd, preferably in a directors cut.

Oh and I finished The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay on the bus on the way into town. Have to say overall I really enjoyed it and at moments it hit me. It is something that I think I want to leave for a while and read again.

I have had the strangest dreams lately, last nights was really strange and really fucked up but at the same time really stranage and fucked up.

Steve Job’s Mac keynote speech is this coming Tuesday. Sounds like there are already some price announcements on the way. I must try and remember to stream this, it could be interesting and effect things in the real world..

I’ve wanted to blog a lot recently, but I have not had the words.

I had the words last night to get into what was described as a “vociferous argument” down the pub. So that was good. Couple of other things hammered home last night too, neither of which being particularly good but what the fuck, neither is life.

My sleeping pattern is still really fucked up. I use to sleep about 7 hours a night max. Ever since I went to Japan I can sleep for 14 hours straight no problem. It really has been since I go back and I can’t figure out what it is. I was in bed well before 12 last night and I slept until just before 2 this afternoon. I don’t get it.

I have to get some batteries today. I only have one set now and when it comes to a choice between using them in my camera and my discman, well the music always wins out. I want to take some more photos today, so I have to go and get some. I’m meeting Nick in town later tonight and the general plan is to be sad and go and see Star Trek: Nemesis. Not expecting much, but I have to go and see it. Looks like Iain might be joining us too

I’m surprised I haven’t seen something like this before. I have to admit it is something I have given some thought to before. If someone suddenly disappears from the web, there are many cases where that would be that and you may never know what has happened

This entry on Evhead’s blog contains most of the main information about the stories going around to do with AOL and blogs. This is something I look forward to following with interest over the coming months. Perhaps this is a really good time to actually write that bloody document.

The Diary of Samuel Pepys is onto its third entry and the man behind it all talks to BBC News: ‘Why I turned Pepys’ diary into a weblog’

“It’s obvious that they (The RIAA) don’t get the Web, and they don’t get technology, or they’d understand how to protect their own website,” said Wall Street systems administrator Anthony Negil.

“The flaws that people are exploiting to access their site are elementary security issues, and there’s no excuse for an organization that purports to understand the dark side of the Internet to leave such gaping holes in their own network infrastructure.”

I Am

Which tarot card are you?

Wisdom, guidance, meditation, intuition. One who listens to the inner voice.
An ancient and hooded figure stands at the pinnacle of a mountain holding forth a shining lantern. In its original significance the card may be said to be one of attainment, the summation of the path and the ability to now shed light for others.

hmm
Did you know that: Studies show that 99% of people spell Hmm with 2 M’s?

Fuck Fuck Fuck Fuck FUCK.

Fuck Fuck FUCK.

It would be nice if people would listen to me every now and again.

Musically speaking

Last year was pretty damn good for new music. Ok, maybe it wasn’t all new music, but it was new to me. Highlights have to include (but are certainly not limited to): Sigur Ros, Ryan Adams, Doves, Starsailor (who my sister intoduced me to), Royksopp, The Strokes and Queen Adreena. (oh and somewhat in a different vein Avril Lavigne and Vanessa Carlton)

aswell as new albums from longtime favourites; The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Garbage, Moby, JJ72 and Bruce Springsteen.

and finally greatest hits from: Bowie, The Rolling Stones, U2, The Smashing Pumpkins, The Manic Street Preachers, Nirvana and as mentioned recently Bjork

Stuff I’m looking out for includes: The Coral, The Flaming Lips and Sleater-Kinney. Of course the first big hit of the year is no doubt going to be Electic 6’s Danger High Voltage and perhaps behind this disco’s carcasss shall be dragged back in. It is not a bad tune by any means but I think it might get old quickly.

Its funny, the highlight of my day was an im conversation in which the screen name on the other end announced a love for Philip K. Dick. That was the hook, it made me smile and keep going. Most importantly it made me smile. You think that’s geeky and sad, well I wasn’t even talking to a person!

And you know what? She’s done it again. I am going to have to see if I can track these people down and congratulate them. Some work needs to be done but wow.

Online Survival guide 2003.

Bjork’s Hyperhallad is really doing it for me today. Stunning track with a really great beat behind it. I’ve missed a lot in not listening to her more closely in the past. It’s the next track up now and I have the urge to turn the volume way up.

damn

Listening to the first track available from Zwan, Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins fame new band. Not bad, very much the same style of music and very much the same great voice. They are playing London in early February and I was thinking about seeing them anyway based on his prior work. But I’ve just gone to check out the details and found they are playing on the same night I’m going to see Sigur Ros.

ah well.

Pushing Tin is by no means a great movie but it is pretty entertaining and it has John Cusack and Billy Bob Thornton. Both of whom are really great actors and always watchable and the script isn’t that bad. I saw this first time around in the cinema and I enjoyed it. It isn’t as good second time around but I’ve still enjoyed it.
