I had a ticket to see Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers in the morning in my hands.

I do not anymore.

So I wasn’t in the best of moods yesterday afternoon and I wasn’t really looking forward to the gig all that much. I was bumming around online figuring I had plenty of time. The venue was within walking distance. Of course it turned out I had read the ticket wrong..or more to the point I had not read it fully. The listed time of 7:30 was not in fact the doors, it was the show time. So I rushed a little.

In late 1999 a movie called This Year’s Love came out. Seemed like your standard chick flick and I had no interest in it at all. However the soundtrack contained a song of the same name by one David Gray and I quite liked it. New Year’s Eve 1999 and Dublin is partying like only Dublin can do. There is a massive free open-air concert in the centre of town. Headliners are The Divine Comedy, Afro-Celt Sound System and David Gray.

It was a great night and the Afro-Celts were the perfect band to ring in at midnight. The entire place was jumping and there was a wonderful buzz. It just rocked. Before them however had been David Gray. Absolutely stunning performance. Everything worked. The drummer was a complete nutcase and spent the night going at it like a mad thing. The music was amazing and there was a hell of a lot of power behind the performance. I bought the White Ladderalbum if not the next day, the day after.

As I have mentioned before I wasn’t all that impressed with the follow up album so I wasn’t all that hyped about the gig. Saying that while nothing really blew me away it all seemed to work live. Of course it was the big hits from White Ladder which got everyone going. And boy did it. From a great piano only version of This Year’s Love to teasing the crowd to the opening notes of Babylon to the stunning finale of Please Forgive Me. The latter being among the highlights of any live show I have seen. The song has a beat and can pass as a dance track but last night it was a dance track and nothing but. It was just a perfect ending and brought the entire crowd to their feet.

Thinking about going again tonight, there are still tickets available…but I can’t really afford it. Hmmm

Sunday afternoon.

Its cold here, somewhere between 0 and 4 degrees. That is just under 40 for you Americans. I am sitting on my bed with the heat on reading some comics. This is a good way I believe to spend a Sunday afternoon. Nothing really stand out in the comics over the past few weeks, some really bad art on Hellblazer turned me off it a bit. Captain Marvel is still working really well. Global Frequency isn’t bad, The Ultimates was ok. The return of The Darkness was a little understated but could be ok. Umm Gotham Central was ok, a decent enough start.

My email is a little fucked up, I can’t send using my new details, I have to send mail through my old details. Hmm will check them at a later date.

Blogger swallowed a post last night, to sum it up last night was quite a bit of fun and fuck there was a lot of talent there.

Comfort zones

Last night wasn’t bad at all. Headed to the local straight after work for a couple of quick drinks. Then it was off into town. Met up with lots of people in the pub and then stayed there till we were thrown out. I had a really good night, talking with some good people. Finished off there around 11:30 ish but at that stage wasn’t really on for going on afterwards so a quick McDonalds was called for and let me tell you my quarter pounder with cheese tasted like one of the best burgers I had ever had. Headed home and slept for pretty much 12 hours. I like that I can still do that a couple of weeks later.

Plans for today are pretty much just pick up and read the last month or so worth of comics and then on to the party tonight.

In February I started working on a new project. I struggled with it for quite a while, it didn’t really make sense, it didn’t click. Then one day it did and it all got better.

For the past couple of weeks I’ve been working on some action script stuff. It has been giving me a headache, something completely new and confusing. So a little bit of a struggle recently. Yesterday however it clicked, not completely. But enough. Given enough time I should be able to figure out exactly what I need and get the job done. It was a good feeling when it all made sense.

So next year there is the next version of that first big project coming up and I am looking forward to it, quite a bit in fact. I was talking to someone about this last night and possibilities about it. I realised late last night why I was looking forward to it so much, I know I can do it. It is a complete comfort zone thing. I’ve done one, I still have more to learn but I am pretty sure I can do the next one. I can’t say that about all of my other projects.

Comfort zones…

Sleuth

I went to see a play this evening, Slueth. It was really excellent. I was in the fourth row so I had a really good view. The two leads were excellent, Ian Ogilvy and Jonathan Kerrigan as Andrew and Milo respectivly.. At first I thought they were both overacting but once it all kicked off, it really worked. Given that both actors only started in the play yesterday (which I had not known) I am more than impressed. They played off each other really well and really did the roles justice. They also seemed to be enjoying themselves and this really shone through at the end while taking a bow.

As I mentioned before I had not been to the theatre before except as a kid. I am really glad I went to see this and I shall be keeping an eye out for other plays that might interest and see about them too. I suspect I’ve been a little spoiled because of the good seat I had but the whole expierence was good. More enjoyable than watching a movie and all round cool I guess is the way to describe it. Seeing real people acting mere feet in front of me drove the whole expierence home.

Its been a day. Work stuff is going on. The words re-org were used again today. I wonder how it will turn out this time.

I had brought the cd-writer home from work to backup everything on my computer so I could reinstall the OS. But its late and I need sleep so it will have to wait till another time. Japan photos are however online.

A little generalisation and some venting

*sigh*. I have this urge to write something.

I’ve just been skim reading What the World Thinks in 2002 How Global Publics View: Their Lives, Their Countries, The World, America and it reminded me of something I said in work today. I believe the line was “I know its a generalisation but I hate Americans”. I was reminded of that whilst reading this. What brought this on? Well, it was a couple of emails. Now this was in work mind you. I have this thing about email. Plain text or nothing. I hate getting html email. Sure every now and again I’d live to be able to bold a word but fuck it, I can live without it. Plain text please, no damn smileys no images, no text formatting and certainly no damn email wallpaper.

I got a couple of emails with fucking text formatting, images and damn email wallpaper and it pissed me off. Its all a complete waste. I don’t give a fuck about anything except the content of the email. I needed (well I didn’t but I often do) the information enclosed in the email, I didn’t need the shit that came with it. I can understand (but still hate) this to a degree in personal emails, but for fuck sake these are business emails giving information to people. Its the damn Americans who do it. Ok we have signature nazis and no-one really puts much into their work emails over here but the fucking Americans have to “customize” their motherfucking email and send it on.

Don’t these people know anything about the internet? Don’t they know anything about email? Plain fucking text, how hard is that to understand. Send me a fucking email with text and nothing else damn you.

Thank you for allowing me to vent, I feel a little better now. The first one of you fuckers who decides to send me on email with crap included for the ha ha value will be hearing from me. And yes I planned on using a much harsher word than fuckers but then considered some of the people reading this.
