An interesting article on Napster etc. The Internet Debacle – An Alternative View
Fuck Fuck Fuck
I had just written quite a long post while I dropped offline to let my Dad go on to collect his mail and as soon as I dial back up and just before I click post I get blue screened and I can’t get out of it. So I lost it all. Fuck! I am not happy with that at all.
It went something like this.
I’m watching The Best of MTV Unplugged at the moment, I was looking for something to have on in the background while I surfed and considering this started with the classic Summer of ‘69 by Bryan Adams, what better to go with?
And if I had the choice Ya – I’d always wanna be there Those were the best days of my life…I think about ya wonder what went wrong
Friday night I was having a look through one of my drawers of stuff and I came across some old photos. In strange timing at the top were the photos I took in EuroDisney. I was surprised at the quality of them. Considering I had a shit little camera and have never been into photos I thought they were pretty good.
I did go into a work thing that had pissed me off a while ago about photos but I think I’ll leave that be and just talking about photos. I never really had any interest in photography and indeed looking at photos. There has to be something of interest in the photo, it has to be pretty spectacular or there has to be a connection of some sort for me to look at photos. I can’t even define it, its just some personal taste I guess, one person’s photos will bore me to tears while others won’t. Strange huh?
Anyways the first photo in the pile was a class photo taken sometime in my first couple of years there. I can’t work out when it was, it could have been ‘93 but it could have been ‘95 either. I’m thinking ’95, but anyway in a lets state the obvious, there are a lot of old faces there. Brings back lots of memories both good and bad. A couple out weigh the rest and it certainly does leave thoughts of what might have been.
John Greenleaf Whittier (1807-1892) wrote, “For of all sad words of tongue or pen, the saddest are these: ‘It might have been!'”, it’s not running across the top of the page anymore but it still holds a lot of meaning.
Random Thoughts
Google is failing me. I am typing in a persons full name and I am not being given their phone numbers and address. I am not happy, someone sort this out for me please. I hate the fact that I lost touch with so many people when I moved to London, when I type something into Google, I damn well expect to get the results I want.
It’s only words, and words are all I have, to take your heart away.
Words by the Bee Gees
I just watched The Osbournes on MTV. There has been a lot of buzz about this show and that was pretty much the only reason I watched it. I don’t get it…it wasn’t even mildly entertaining, Jackass however is funny as fuck as usual.
I have also decided that for once I am not going to talk about how much I enjoyed tonight’s West Wing or how it was written to its usual high standards.
I’m watching The South Bank Show at the mo which is about Mobys career and has some live performances which is kinda cool. A lot of back stories about Play and 18. There are actually philistines out there who don’t like 18 despite the joy that it brings.
I just noticed something strange in my stats. I’m getting 28% of my hits from Netscape browsers, mainly 4x but thats a very high number given the supposed low penetration of Netscape. Its interesting, I’ll have to check this out at in Netscape at some stage, but I think everything should work fine…*sigh* I’ll go do that now. Ok it all looks same as it does in IE except for the rollovers for the archives. I’ll have a think about that.
Oh yes Elvis vs JXL’s A little less Conversation has grown on me a lot and I think I’m starting to really like it. I have to admit I am so not familar with much of Elvis’s stuff, some of the songs sure but only through remixes or covers.
No Doubt’s Hella Good
Hella Good the new video from No Doubt. I mentioned in an earlier post that I found Gwen Stefani very sexy in it. I’ve just been watching it again its more than that. The video is..I don’t know what the video is really, visually its a cross between punk and goth, it does somewhat remind me of The Prodigy’s Firestarter, it has some of the same styleistic imagery, it doesn’t have the same impact but it is a very memorable video and I quite look the song too. I liked their last song aswell so I’m probably going to check out the album at some stage.
So last night was as expected a night out in Duffys. Headed down there about 8ish with my Dad and ended up staying till around half one. Wasn’t bad at all, this morning however was not great.
MTV rocks, I wish I had this in London. Tomorrow night is the Chilli Peppers live from Paris and I’m looking foward to that. I’m reading Fight Club at the moment, I found my copy last night and its a damn great read.
Just emailed my LCS a listing of pre-orders for the next few months. Lots of cool stuff coming out…
Gwen Stefani looks spectacularly sexy in No Doubt’s new video Hella Good. So far things are fine here, not much going on. Gonna hit the local later tonight I guess but nothing really planned.
The Friday Five…late yet again.
1. Where are you right now?
Sitting in my parents house in Dublin online while watching and realising how much I miss MTV.
2. What have you lost recently?
Hmmm, my temper?
3. What was the first CD you ever purchased? Does that embarrass you now?
CD? I don’t know. Tape was a “Greatest Dance Album ever” type thing and no, it has some really good stuff on it.
4. What is your favorite kind of writing pen?
A biro with black ink and it writes smoothly, but I prefer to use a pencil
5. What is your favourite ice cream flavour?
Double Choc Chip.
Only a teaser, but bring it on Terminator 3: Rise of The Machines.

Dublin
I hate traveling at times. I can never seem to stay organised. I get to the airport and within 20 minutes everything I had planned so well is just not working.
Anyways more on that at some stage. Some things will never change, some things do change.
Gone to Dublin
Posts as and when.
Minority Report
I think Spielberg’s broken.
Ok, so I’ve just checked out a preview of Minority Report. I wasn’t sure what to expect of it, I had not heard anything really good about the movie and considering the last movie that Spielberg made (A.I.) I was kinda wary. The story was by Philip K. Dick and I have a very high opinion of Colin Farrell were the plus points.
Concept is not bad at all, the ideas behind it could have been used to make a really good movie and this appears to be what is going to happen. The setup works well, nice and simple but it gets everything across and when the story kicks off it works for the first hour or so. The pace is way off (just like A.I.) and when the film finally leads to the climax or at least what you expect to be the climax it is in fact not and continues on needlessly for another 45 minutes or so. The entire downward spiral a movie that so far was allright can be pointed to exactly at the moment he says “if you kill me, my family don’t get anything”. Had the vision of the murder simply come to be I would have left happy enough I had seen a decent movie. No setup, no nothing just a simple payoff of a concept.
Colin Farrell was solid for sure but his entire character made no sense, one moment he is investigating Pre-Crime for flaws, next minute he is having a punch up with Tom Cruise’s character and then he is solving crimes…hmmm
More tomorrow, I gotta go pack.
I have quite a few things I want to talk about, I just don’t feel I can talk about them here, or rather it would not really be appropriate. I am so looking forward to a week off so I don’t have to worry about crap like that.
Going to go see a preview of Minority Report tonight then home to pack.
