where the girls are so pretty.

This will probably end up as a rambling list type entry.

Saturday evening ended up with me telling things I never thought I’d tell to people I never thought I’d really talk to. It was quite surprising. I guess there is enough history, not quite 10 years but at least 8. It’s a long time. We were never really friends back then, we argued about stupid things which of course at the time were really important and equally of course in hindsight aren’t even worthy of footnotes.

My parents house, where I lived till I was almost 20 is right on the coast. The beach and a very nice beach it is at that, is less than 5 minutes walk away. Walking on a beach under the moonlight is really one of the best things in the world. A quick google search gives me this picture of the place. Not 20 minutes ago, I was walking up the little ramp you can barely make out in the middle.

It’s usually pretty clean. The village, Malahide enters the Tidy Towns competition on a regular basis and has won or recieved honours on almost as regular a basis. It’s cleaned a couple of times a week and certainly looked to have been tonight. Anyway a nice walk back from the village itself. The beach goes on for a good few miles from the Marina at the estury mouth moving onto another beach. You can probably walk a good 10 miles on it one way with just a few rocks to climb over. I suspect I’ll end up walking there tomorrow morning.

I really really do love the Irish accent. That and a nice Russian one gets me everytime. It’s so nice hearing the former everywhere I go.

I always said that I wanted to end up back in Dublin. I was never really that sure on it. I think now, I am.

This evening I saw the directors cut of Donnie Darko in the IFI. It’s easily the best film I’ve ever seen. I think I prefer the original release, the extra scenes are nice, some of them are really nice, but the pages from the Philosophy of Time Travel take away a bit much. They provide more of an explanation of what is actually happens than the original and I enjoyed thinking about what was going on a lot more than being told it. Still a certain purchase when it comes out.

Speaking of which, I don’t begrudge it a special editon DVD. Two main reasons, 1 it’s a directors cut and 2 it only managed that because it was so sucessful as a normal DVD. Even with the major takings in the EU market, the film was a flop in the US. What I do begrudge a re-release is The Godfather, there was full special editon box set a couple of years ago. Bastards.

Um yeah, so rambling.

It constantly amazes me how the most polluted place in Dublin (the airport) has fresher air than anywhere in London. It’s a pretty sad statement of affairs.

Something else I meant to mention last night which is really nice, not smelling like an ashtray when you get home from a night out. Sure there are some people smoking outside the bar but that’s about that. It’s nice and it struck me as I got to bed last night.

Saturday was really just catching up with friends. I was out with some friends that I only managed to hook up with about a year ago and man have we all grown up. Perhaps not completly but so much more than back then. Not surprising how mid 20’s is that little bit more mature than late teens. Anyway an excellent night spent mainly chatting about life and love. The theme of the evening was Amy and some debate over her or indeed his existence. A fun evening. It ended, as many a good evening does here in Supermacs quite late chatting just before running for a night bus.

I suspect by the start of November I’ll be looking to use up some holidays. I suspect a week back here again is on the cards. By suspect, I mean that I’ve already look up flights and started working out some dates. I see Modest Mouse have just announced another London date so I’ll have to make sure I’m around for that. It would be really quite nice if they had a Dublin date, I’d certainly try and work around that a bit.

Anyway I’m reading John F. Kennedy: An Unfinished Life which I’m enjoying a lot. Getting a good bit read at night and of course while travelling. I enjoy reading biographys quite a bit and should track down some new ones.

Typing mood is gone.

So I’ve spent every day since then chasing Amy…

The evening’s conversation summed up in a nutshell. An excellent evening overall and on the basis of it, I really need to get back here more often.

One of the many things I love about here is the stars. My parents house is in County Dublin which about 15 miles from the city centre. Not very far really, but far enough that the sky is clear enough to see the stars shining brightly. The plough as ever being a favourite, clear in the sky.

Man I really really miss this place. I’m even starting to think there might be more stuff than I thought worth coming back to.

On the other good news front, my phone connected again later in the day so yay to texting 🙂

I really really should know better by now than to believe anything promised in meetings.

The cynic in me got beaten down by something recently and I was just in effect told that I “misunderstood”.

I wonder how everyone else in the room managed to “misunderstood” too…

you take what is offered, and that must sometimes be enough.

I have to stop buying books. I have at least 30 unread and I just added the 6 I bought at the weekend to the pile. I really should work through them before I go spending more.

For those of you reading here, it’s worth noting that I cross post to Live Journal with the username davebushe. I joined up mainly to comment and got sucked in as a whole load of the V are on there and there are some other interesting bits and pieces. It’s also got friends lock, which I use quite a bit and not everything in that gets posted up here so come friend me if you want to read the whole thing.

I finished Altered Carbon by Richard K Morgan this evening. It’s an excellent book. Very much hints of Philip K. Dick, Alfred Bester and some of the other greats in there. I’ll be out at lunch tomorrow or on the way home to buy the next one. Should do me nicely for travel on Thursday night.

Farel, the guy who has been staying with us for the past few days, left us a lovely piece of artwork from pop gun war which was really damn nice of him.

Finally installed SP2 this evening. It went on without a hitch which I was quite pleased and a little surprised by. I’ve not tried CoH since, but Eve runs just fine. Training up Medium Hybrid to V while I’m away. I was going to work on getting Caldari Cruiser to V so I could jump into BS but it only takes 5 days and I need at least 8. So a good chunk from a higher skill which will let me get those T2 specialisation skills up and running.

I owed my flatmate a story and I’ve been meaning to type it out for a few days and either email it to her or post it up here but I never got to doing so. I always found something else to do. So when she asked this evening I just told her the story…I think she had been waiting to hear it, just a little bit maybe. I’m only still up because I had decided that on the basis of that I wanted to type for a little while and well it’s just not working. I don’t want to go and type it out and I don’t have much else to talk about.

So on that note, I’m off to sleep.

I have not got a single shred of motivation this morning. In fact I can sum it up even more by saying I do not give a fuck. I am astounded that is going on midday already, also quite pleased.

My flatmate came through with tickets for the Pogues at the end of the year which I’m looking forward to. I picked up a ticket for Kings of Leon out on the Forum in late October which will follow Hope of the States the week before quite nicely. Hopefully some other dates in there. REM due to announce European dates this week, I would go and see them in Hammersmith at the Fair Trade thing next week but I’m in Dublin.

Roll on Thursday. I get a week at home catching up with friends and family and most importantly, not being in London. Looking forward to it so much. Leaving on Thursday evening right after work and getting hopefully to my parents place for about 10. I even know where my keys and passport are this time!

I want to go out and spend money tonight, money I do not have. Murder One is out on DVD today at what seems like a perfectly reasonable price of around £30. I won a £20 voucher for HMV as part of Metro’s “My Urban Life” survey which will go straight to that. Yay!

This morning is a big Sigur Ros kick. I’m so in the mood for it and the volume has been pushed right up. I had no idea that there were two new Feist books out. I noticed them both in borders. The third Conclave of Shadows is out in hardcover, I’ll have to get it to match the first two and the new edition (actually fairly rewritten) of Prince of the Blood in paperback luckily. I don’t need more books really, I have a good 30 unread lying around my room but everyone always needs more books.

The weekend was pretty good. Free drinks on Thursday and Friday lead to much fun and a couple of hangovers of course. Jean and Niall arrived all on time and all well on Friday which was good. Saturday was a really good day.

We went to the Tate Modern to see the Edward Hopper exhibit. Confession time. I discovered Hopper through a comic, bonus points if you know what I’m talking about before the next line. Powers of course. The first printing of the second trade; Roleplay had a cover by Michael Avon Oeming (naturally) which was a take on Hopper’s most famous painting Nighthawks and it started there.

So anyway Jean really came over to see that so I booked some tickets and off we went. Nighthawks itself was stunning. No picture I’ve ever seen of it does it justice. The colours are so much more vivid and alive, in particular on the red dress (my god is it red) and the yellows in the background. Absolutely breathtaking. Automat also breathtaking, again photos just don’t do it justice. Just stunning. The rest of the exhibit was just as amazing.

A long walk in the sun followed, from the Tate to Oxford Street down and around by Parliament and Trafalgar square. It was pretty nice if somewhat long. Did some shopping around there and then headed off to meet the V for drinks and dinner which was both good. A few minutes into it, the V had been established as “nice people” which amused me no end and there was good conversation all evening. It would be almost possible to map out the seating via LJ but I’m not going there.

We have another guest in the Primrose Hilton till Tuesday so last night was a trip up to the Washington for mainly a conversation on comics and movies and some music. 4 pints of Star on a Sunday night, always a good thing. Tonight looks likely to be more of the same.

Lunchtime. I’ll re-read this later to see if it makes sense throughout.

It’s been quite a good couple of days. Wednesday afternoon was interesting. The studio was really nice and they did 6 songs. One of the older hits and then some new stuff. So yeah it was interesting.

Yesterday was the quarterly all hands here. It was again, interesting. Normally these things are really shit, we all have to sit for 4 or 5 hours of presentations and then we get some food and drink. They are generally dreaded and I’ve been known to invent conference calls to get out of them.

This one was very different. It was held in London Weekend Television studios by the river and instead of just people talking and talking, we had hired John Sergeant to present and it was done like a talk show for the afternoon. He’s a funny funny man and it was very entertaining. Easily the best I’d been. We were recording it all aswell so there was a full camera setup, sound and even a director.

A good evening followed with lots of free drinks and yes I have a small headache this morning. In the space of two days I was in a music and a tv studio, neither of which I’d been in before. It does seem to be a week of coincidence.

Friends from Dublin arriving later tonight, off to the Tate in the morning and then whatever they want to do before hopefully joining the V DU wherever the fuck it ends up being.

I’m listening to the Beeb live stream from Russia at the moment. It sounds like the army saw a chance and took it, despite all the insistences that they would not and various bombs have gone off.

What a wonderful fucking world we live in.

Someday and that day will be soon I hope scientists will discover the gene which causes people to fall for someone who they cannot have. Then that gene will be elimenated and the world will be a better place.
