I blame the heat.

My Amazon order just arrived (and I know one of my orders to the US just arrived too). So I’m pleased. I have some new music to listen to, the first Nada Surf album and then a Muse album to give em a chance. Then tonight I have a nice new Ultimate Spider-Man hardback to work through. Looking forward to it, been a while since my last Bendis dose.

Just been checking out the Glastonbury lineup and it’s not as bad as I first thought. There are at least 10 bands I want to see, 3 of which I’m excited about so that’s good. Looking forward to it. This time next week I’ll be finishing work and ready to go 🙂

I found myself drifting off in thought a second ago. The damn air conditioning is still broken here and won’t be fixed until the weekend. So it’s pretty nasty around the building. It doesn’t help for concentration (still looking for that single line). It was pretty strange, there was a name in an email which just triggered some memory dominos and lead me to a thought I’d not been at in a while. Couple of seconds later I’m sure I must have sat straight up in my chair realising where my mind had wandered to and that was the end of that.

I’m sure that sounds filthy, but it really wasn’t.

Anyway my heads all over the place this week. I’ve got stuff on in and outside of work and lots of nagging little things from both. So it adds up and I’m tired and hot all the time. Another busy weekend coming up. Should be a great one, Chili Peppers on Saturday afternoon and the Fleadh on Sunday. Really looking forward to seeing Dylan. Hope for a couple of the classics and fairly sure he’ll deleiver. It should be a weekend of great music and hopefully some nice (but not too hot) weather.

I’m reading Baracuda 945 by Patrick Robinson. It’s a techno thriller I guess like Tom Clancy but not as good. Some of the dialogue is really stuffy, in particular the first 2 chapters or so. But it’s fun and I can speed through it. Get about 100 pages done on the bus journey home which is good. I do like reading books like that every now and again. Popcorn entertainment between the really good stuff.

I’m trying to compose an email in another window. In fact I moved over here to blog to procrastinte a bit before I send it. It’s not a bad email and it’s probably not all that important but it’s the type which I worry about getting right. I really don’t want to come across too strong which I’m often told I do. While I’m quite sure it’s fine, I’ll leave it another while, re-read it and then send it off.

Guess I better get back to it.

A pretty good day so far actually. I’ve had a result on a project, it’s being dropped! I’ve got a meeting about another one later this afternoon which brings me right back to the basics and a part of the service which I usually enjoy working on.

I’ve actually had to go and look in and look for source files for the first time in a few months and I’m enjoying it. It’s a part of my job which I do enjoy, not sure how much if at all I’ll be doing of it going forward (fingers crossed) so it’s good to get into it now.

Now if I could just find the single line of code I need to change….

So iTunes Europe appears to suck. The following artists are lacking
Radiohead
Metallica
Bruce Springsteen
Stereophonics
The Frames
The Pixies (just the 1 new track)

I consider this to be very poor. Bought a few things but don’t see myself using it very often at all. I’ll keep an eye for new content and the odd song which I like but overall, disapointed.

Patch day today for Eve, lots and lots of changes and a few small problems. I am completly rejigging my setup and will have to see how it goes. Not much time to play over the coming weeks, will be away quite a bit.

Am tired and annoyed and going to go to bed now instead of writing more.

– A few people have really rubbed me the wrong way lately. I’m unsure as to whether it was actually them of if it’s just down to the frame of mind I’m in at the moment. I supsect it’s a little bit of both.

– Didn’t do much today at all, in fact I played Eve or Deus Ex all day. Not good so around 5ish I decided to walk up to Finchly road and get a book and some dinner. This of course turned into 4 books, ah well. Then I went to see The Day After Tomorrow as it was timed nicely with dinner being over. It’s a pretty poor movie…but it is a silly fun disaster movie and as such was exactly what I was expecting. So yes, fun. And Emmy Rossum was suitably cute. Tho I was scared to find out she was born in 1986 when I checked IMDB to see who she was.

– I’m not going to blog about the massively nerdy night I just had in Eve, but my god that was FUN!

Tired and feeling very out of sorts today. I’d make a list but it would only be of things which annoyed me so I’m not going to bother.

I’m going out now, to get some food and to get a book and perhaps to go and see a movie. We shall see.

*sigh*

One of those lives.

Hope Of The States – Enemies/Friends
——————————————————————————–
Lately in the hospitals
The halfway homes and choking jails
There’s people on the mend again
With hope to carry on again
It makes me feel that something’s right
For everyone who tries to fight
No politics or dirty tricks
All standing up and shouting out
All the money in the world won’t save you
We’re coming home
All the prisons that you build won’t hold us
Just let us go

Then I found a broken heart
With dusty wheezing thing won’t start
I’ll fix it up and watch it grow
And send it to a happy home
It don’t take much to raise a smile
To push yourself the extra mile
I’ll stand with you when things go wrong
And lie and say it’s not too long

All the money in the world won’t save you
We’re coming home
All the prisons that you build won’t hold us
Just let us go

Come on people
Keep your friends close
Your enemies won’t matter in the end
Come on people
Keep your friends close
Your enemies won’t matter in the end
In the end
In the end

Yet again, I am in a typing mood.

– I am glad that Ken Livingstone won the election for Lord Mayor of London. I am bothered by the low number of votes for the Green party and even more bothered by the fact that BNP recieved 10k more votes than they did. How can people vote for the fucking Nazi party in todays’s day and age?

– I do rant here, maybe more than it reads but this is my place to rant. Getting the thoughts down “on paper” helps alot and I often don’t let the full thoughts through but they work themselves out here for me. In work, I’ll go off in IM to a few people that I trust and respect and usually recoginse and acknowlege that I am on a rant.

Actually that’s it. I’m going to sleep now.

So this morning, I had a 9.30 meeting. A fairly important one.

Got up early to find we have no hot water so a cold shower to start the day was not fun. Got that over and done with pretty quick and then left a good twenty minutes early so I could get to my desk and sort myself out before the meeting.

Of course not only are there delays on the Jubilee Line but on the Piccadilly line too. So I arrived late. Only by a few minutes but it meant I had to go straight to the meeting room and to then go to the desk of the person I was meeting to grab her.

Anyway, I’m quite pleased to report the meeting was a complete success and I’ve got full permission and indeed encouragement from all parties to apply for both jobs. Which is exactly what I am doing this morning.

And now for the cover letters.

oh and the voting was…

Greens all the way for this one. Second vote for the mayor of London to Ken Livingstone as I don’t want Steve Norris to get in there. Andrew pointed out that first vote could happily go on the Greens and then have the second one counted for Ken. Very handy and I was much happier casting that vote.

And no, I don’t ever mind people knowing who I am voting for.

And fuck yes that is a horrible colour. I am going to fix it in the morning. I’ll need a distraction by around 10am.
