Theatre Tip #71

Or how to sit there happily not coughing despite having a nasty chest cough!

I went into work today, I was quite late due to staying in bed longer than I should and some minor tube issues. It was an allright day I guess but by the time 6pm rolled around I really was not feeling too well and had decided that I was going to not go to the theatre. The thought of loosing the £25 I had paid for the ticket however annoyed the hell out of me and I made half hearted attempt to see if anyone in the office wanted it. No-one was free. I had decided to go into town anyway and get some comics and see how I felt closer to 8pm. So I got some comics and decided that I wanted to see the show and therefore should go.

However I didn’t think I should really go along and cough my way through it, it just would not be fair on anyone else there. So I had a brainstorm, went off to a chemist. I did mange to get to Covent Garden before remembering there is Boots right beside Tower Records inPiccadillyy Circus. Back to there and one bottle of extra strong cough syrup designed to stop chesty coughs and I’m off to the theatre. I may have perhaps ignore the dosage and had a generous swig before going in, but it worked like a charm. A much smaller swig during the interval also helped greatly.

Got a coffee at the bar, pre-ordered one for the interval and everything was good. The seating space was not too bad, better than the last time and the show was excellent. Both leads were really good…but they had not got muchchemistryy between them. I thought Luke Perry was great, much much better than I was expecting and Aly Hannigan is so so cute! Anyway it was all good, the script was funny, there were some genuine comedy moments and at least one great improv moment at the start.

I have to do more theatre, the two times I’ve been I enjoyed a hell of a lot. Heading off to the theatre promo site in another window now. Fuck me theatre prices are expensive. Couple of possibilities, but not sure I want to pay £30 upwards for em. Couple of cheap options saved in my basket now, including The Dice House for £15, will see what the lads think tomorrow at least one had expressed some interest.

Oh in other news Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller are co-directing Miller’s Sin City. Yay!

I had planned on getting home and going straight to bed, I feel pretty wrecked. However I chatted with my flatmate, started typing, read up the V, surfed for a little and now it’s going on quarter to one in the am. Le sigh, I’ve been typing away at this on and off for an hour now. Not really much to show for that unfortunatly. I do have the excuse of having some computer problems and having to reboot a couple of times. It was quite simple in the end, the reason your modem won’t connect Dave is because one of the two green lights is flashing trying to tell you it’s not ready to connect, just be a little patient…fucker.

Anyway sleep now really does call and to confirm, I enjoyed the hell out of the show and am really glad I went along!

So I’m feeling a lot better this evening and I have had some food. Both of these rank as good things. Back to work in the morning and I have to deal with the disaster that has been my email server down for three days. I have no idea how much email I have lost in this time but it will be a good amount and lots of it being fairly important. Fuck.

On the other front, I’m going to the theatre tomorrow night. I got a ticket for When Harry Met Sally cheap in the intro to London theatre offer, picked this one mainly for the cast (Aly Hannigan and Luke Perry as the leads) and the fact it was cheap and I should take more advantage of the culture London has to offer. Damn that was hard to type out. Anyway I’m really not sure I’m actually up for it now, nevermind how I will be after a day in work. I shall see how I feel at 6 tomorrow.

That bloody Night Nurse is great…and evil. I’ve slept like a log the past couple of nights but my god have I had fucked up and disturbing dreams. Another dose tonight then and I should be pretty ready for work tomorrow.

Going back to last Friday, I went into the gig assuming there was no chance of getting my favourite Damien Rice song; Eskimo. I didn’t think they would bring along an opera singer for two minutes of one song. So when he segued (god I love that word) into it, I didn’t actually believe it was Eskimo. Then when it came towards the moment, I thought he was going to sing it himself or a tape was going to come on, but no the awesome Lisa Hannigan comes through with the soprano. It was great and really did make the gig for me.

Hmm, drugs and sleep now.

Also, one day I will get out of the habit of starting posts with “So”…someday

So I had some Night Nurse before I went to bed last night and boy did it knock me out. I normally take some time to get to sleep, I think I was gone before my head hit the pillow last night. It certainly fucked up my dreams, now that was a really strange one. Not been in work today either, I felt worse this afternoon and I suspect I won’t be tomorrow either. I’ve not managed to have much food today and my Darth Vader impression is mighty!. I shall set my alarm anyway and see how it all goes.

I watched Grosse Point Blank this afternoon. It’s a great movie, probably John Cusack’s best. Not normally a big Minnie Driver fan but she does a great job too.

For now it’s another dose of Night Nurse and off to bed.

So a brief update. Saturday was lots of fun, there was lots to drink and lots of ROCK towards the end of the night. There was good company and we kept it going for a long day. Everyone staying back at ours went really well too, lots of space and a couple of hours sitting around drinking and chatting. Just the one person decided to go to another tube station without telling any of us and then naturally got lost because he did not know how to get here from here…well really just has himself to blame. Still, glad to report it did not spoil a good night and all was well that ends well.

Watching Requiem for a Dream at the moment and the end of it is quite disturbing, overall it’s a harsh movie with an excellent cast. Of late I have been watching the Hornblower mini series. It’s all good stuff but it’s not a patch on the books and it’s left me wanting to read tham all again. I’m not even sure all of them are in print and I’ve never seen a full run available anytime I’ve thought to keep any eye out for them.

Oh yes yesterday morning I was somewhat hungover. Unfortunately by about 1, I had traded this in for a rather nasty head cold. Added to that, I had to go into work yesterday afternoon. All in all not very helpful. I didn’t go in this morning, I just did not feel up to it. I’ve been pottering around at home reading work emails and playing Eve and other stuff like that. Feeling a little better tonight, my head has not cleared up tho. It’s a fun time in work. I shall set my alarm for the morning anyway and see how it all goes.

Oh comic stuff. Daredevil continues to rock fairly hard, I fail to see the fuss over Grant Morrison’s run on New X-Men and those are the only ones which really spring to mind to mention here.

Musically there is not much going on, I may have to invest in some more Gun’s N’ Roses and some Bon Jovi. We rocked hard to them on Saturday night, even more so was a tune which I’ve not heard in a long time but boy did it get everyone going; Motorhead’s Ace of Spades. I have to have had a lot to drink to have my hair down and be thrashing around inside a pub with lots of people I know around.

Having a little bit of a love affair with Excel these days. I’ve started producing stuff within Eve and so I’m charting my minerals and my costs in a spreadsheet. It’s working out quite well, I can see my profit margin straight away and it’s helped me really boost up my failing wallet. I also have some nice investments aside and some other good bits and pieces.

Oh yes, it would be nice to be really good at something. I know it’s a fairly basic thing to say, but it would be nice. Guess I will be leaving it at about that, the thoughts are not flowing onto the screen as I would like and it’s late and I need to sleep. So a quick stop off in Eve and then I’m gone.

People are cunts. I’m sorry, but it’s true. There were about 20 people in the audience tonight who made a damn good attempt to spoil the gig for everyone else. Why would anyone bother to pay for a gig and the proceed to talk their way through it? What possible reason would anyone have to do that? Motherfuckers.

Anyway the music and singing was great, in particular a version of Eskimo with Lisa doing the opera vocals. Wow that girl has some voice.

‘Twas a shit week at work, had a couple of drinks and a chat with the lads after work and that was good, would have liked a decent evenin to finish it off on a high but ah well, it was not the worst ever.

I was up early this morning. I had a shower and I logged into Eve so I could put some stuff I made overnight onto the market. It was all good. Then I got the tube and there were delays on both lines, not so good.

I wasn’t in a particularly good mood, or bad mood for that matter, I just was. Either way I was sitting in the last carriage on the Piccadilly line and reading Metro. I had looked at everyone as I got on of course and dismissed the carriage for lack of talent. However after a few moments I noticed that the girl sitting just opposite me was in fact cute, really really cute. She didn’t look too happy tho she did smile at the kids next to her (and what a cute smile it was) and the in fact didn’t look too well. More of an attitude than anything physical but she looked weary. Morning blues I guess. Anyway just seeing her put me in quite a good mood and I realised that my mood was getting better and better. So anyway, thanks whoever you are. You certainly brightened up my morning.

Off to see Damien Rice tonight and looking forward to it quite a bit. It should be a good mellow night. Then tomorrow is another V DU, and another long one at that…in a pub which serves really strong, really nice cocktails. We have at last count 8 people staying over tomorrow night, it could continue to be messy when we get back at whatever hour. Given the level of drunkenness last weekend, it could be messy. I’m looking forward to it.

Oh yes. Yesterday was a busy day meeting wise, lots of stuff going on. I was running tight on time to make it to a meeting and charged up three flights of stairs to get back to my desk to dial in. So I get there and completely blank on the phone number and the login details. So instead of looking em up I just dialled what I thought it was, when it was still ringing on the third ring I realised I had a wrong number, that I did not in fact know off the number I needed and hung up. Looked up the right details and dialled again. All fun.

Some Glastonbury announcements last night. Paul McCartney confirmed, bah not my thing at all but very pleased to see The Kings of Leon getting a high support slot on the Friday night, that will be a good one and nice to hear that The Strokes are also a more than likely which should be good too. The latter two I think really being good festival bands. Looking forward to it lots now. Doubt very much there will be anything like the amount of musical attraction there was last year but we shall see and it will be good one anyway.

Oh yes tv stuff. Watched the second episode of Joan of Arcadia last night. It was ok but has proved itself not to be worth week in, week out. I may line up a few more as filler but no real rush. Nice cast tho, they really pull off the family nicely. 24 continued it’s theme of being ‘meh’ for the season. I was hoping Nina would go out in a more fun way but yay Jack!. And finally Angel was probably it’s best episode ever. I nearly hurt myself laughing, and here is why

And now a note on the educational benefits of Eve…no really…well kinda.

Eve has it’s own market in game, you can buy/sell most of the things used in game. It’s pretty fascinating to watch the prices actually be determined by supply and demand. There are some major changes going on in the minerals market at the moment and seeing how the prices are being driven down because of extra supply and the knock on effect on the prices of items made using these components is fascinating.

New episode of Alias was fun but nothing really special. Just watched the pilot episode of Joan of Arcadia and it wasn’t half bad actually. Don’t think it needs to be watched week in, week out but it was fun. Watching the pilot of Las Vegas now and it’s so so at the moment.

AIM 5.5 rocks hard by the way.

My spam filters in work are getting pretty damn good. It’s a lot rarer that I have to mark anything as spam. The one I have at home really has some catching up to do.
