Wow
No errors now and publishing away.
I think my hosting company lied about changes…or blogger changed some stuff.
Anyway back now and I have nothing to say.

*sigh*
It appears my blog is fucked which is why there has been no updates for the past few days.
I read The Red Star collected edition last night. It is easily the best new comic I have ever read. I don’t think anything I’ve read before blew me away quite like it did. As I look around at my shelves a quite a few decent comics on my shelf there isn’t much that stands up to it. Go and buy it.
I love broadband.
I hate CD protection
I hate Woolworth’s. Take the 3 disc Springsteen set to the counter to be handed the 2 cd set and asked for money. When I point out it was the 2 disc set, I was told “yes we are out of the other one” and well the reaction wasn’t good when I said I didn’t want it then. Fuckers. I’m on a kick with the Greatest Hits anyway.
Work is really having it’s ups and downs these days. I’m getting some good results on a daily basis and some really bad results. I’m working in an area which isn’t mine…but I quite enjoy… but not to this extent. I think an email is called for. I spent a while this evening (a good 30 min) composing an email about an issue I have and sending it off and I’m thinking now that it was a waste of my time. I was sending it in-house and so it didn’t need a full polish but originally it was meant to go out-house so I was trying to do a good job. Still time well spent I guess.
The ups are good tho, they actually make me look forward to work for the first time in a good while. I know that when I sit at my desk I will have some visible results by the end of the day and you know I think that’s a good thing personally.
Things are stressed and tense in general tho. A lot of it is tied into people not doing what we need them to do and I think that if we could get some resolution there it would be a great help. I got on the phone and got some information on Monday and that just turned everything around for me. Sometimes if I was allowed to just pick up the phone and ring the person who can ask the question instead of some project/product manager who will then ask their manager for some time to help me…well I’d get results a hell of a lot quicker.
Contradictory…moi?
I’m reading J.G.Ballard’s High Rise and it’s not bad. It feels real, I can just imagine everything happening as described…not sure if that’s a good thing or not.
Um not much else going on really. Drinks this weekend with some friends anyway.
Halo on X-Box, I was expecting more. I know I’m only on the second level but given it’s billing, I was expecting more. The game is young yet.
I have my broadband back.
Man did I miss it.

So I played some games, watched some DVDs and read some comics. More precisely I read the 5 trades of Garth Ennis’ Hellblazer. They were good fun, some ups and some downs.
I still have a headache but thankfully nothing like as bad as this morning.
I slept really badly last night. I had some very strange dreams and spent quite a while waking up. As a result, this morning I feel like shit. Really like shit. My head hurts and my throat hurts and my stomach is a little unsettled.
I did have pizza with a whole hell of a lot of extra cheese on it last night…I may just google to see if that is an urban myth or not.
Ok sod google. I’m not wading through the crap it spews back for a simple query about cheese.
and now the typing.
Been all over the place today music wise. White Stripes, Semisonic, The Strokes, The Frames and Johnny Cash. It’s been a strange day. It got quite prodouctive for a while to as I got the answer to something which was frustrating me. I was trying to take some options off of a page and I kept going in and taking them off but once they were in the compiled code, they were still there. It was strange. After doing some looking into it and confirming that I was not mad I made a phone call and got it sorted out. The line which sets the items to invisible is no longer in use and I needed some new code. It was so nice to be able to close out half of my bugs on it in a couple of hours. It felt damn good too. I also managed to get my unit testing tool working aswell which saves so much hassle so it was generally a good working day.
Really really chuffed about that Radiohead ticket. I was browsing Wayahead just looking to see what there was and it showed up in the top sellers. Given that until now it was sold out I wondered how this could be, a couple of clicks later and it’s all good. So that’s two double bills, Ryan Adams followed by Radiohead the next night at the end of this month and then Kings of Leon with Iron Maiden the next night in the middle of December. God I love music 🙂
Reading wise, well I got the latest two Peter David: Star Trek: New Frontier books. Flew through them in a couple of days and enjoyed the hell out of them. Finished off all the Lehane series last week and then with them all done started off on Bret Easton Ellis’s The Rules of Attraction. The style takes a few pages to get into but then it just clicks and the entire novel switches between POV. I’m enjoying it a lot. I know it’s fiction but the completely different viewpoints of the same events come across pertty damn well. I’ll buy the DVD at the end of the month I think.
Still not caught up on email…tho this is more laziness now than anything else, I don’t want to go through it all but I will…soonish. I really will…uh huh.
So yeah the Age of Empires thing. Seems to stem simply from finding the disks while unpacking and installing it. It’s a couple of hours late in the evenings now at least and sometimes I little more.
Um yeah I’m kinda stuck now on this one. I’ve got loads more unpacking to do, it’s happening oh so slowly. I think it will be at least another 10 days till I get paid and I can go ahead and get some shelves in. Then I can actually get some stuff out of the boxes and take it from there.
My great aunt died early this morning. I’m not even sure I’ve ever met her. The email from my mom with the info was prefixed with she’s been ill for a long time which of course I did not know either. It was still a strange moment reading it. She lived over in the UK (somewhere) so I don’t know if the funeral will be here or back in Ireland. If it’s here I could be seeing some of my family a lot sooner than I had expected and will more than likely have to find my suit and get it cleaned (yay).
I don’t have a video player in the new flat so I don’t have a way to watch all those West Wing eps which Hugh has been kindly taping for me. Will have to sort that one out too…but moreso a computer. The lack of downloading is not fun 🙁
George Bush arrives in the UK tomorrow to protests and a lot of them from the sound of it. It all seems to have been timed nicely. No weekends and no evening stuff on. So for everyone in work who would like to go out and greet him appropriatly, it’s just not on. I am considering taking a half day on Thursday to be able to join the full protest early but I gotta see how it goes. It’s posing some issues and some real concern that his “security” could actually shoot and kill on the streets of London.
I watched the first few episodes of the second season of The Office last night. Funny but hard to watch at times.
